Pens have the most blocked shots in the entire NHL. But that's probably because of what you said, they don't have a bottom 6 that can drive play. Also the Pens stars at 5v5 suck right now.

Nope. Its sheahans fault.

Well they're not doing a very good job for something that has been expressed as easy to learn.

Maybe Boner, Kunitz & Hainsey were better at it than the guys doing it now?

The overriding gest of the comment (same as I made yesterday), is what is wrong with our PK if anybody can do it? Why are we so poop at it at the moment?

Wasn't this PK good up until the last few games it was bad?

I don't think that it's a complete lack of a bottom 6. Malkin, Kessel and Hags have played well together. Guentzel, Sid and Rust do create a lot of scoring chances. That leaves Hornquist, Sheary and Sheahan in that bottom 6. All of those guys are good, if not great, bottom 6 players. Sheahan may be better suited for the 4th line, but he's still a good player. The problem is that this Pens team has NO 4th line. Like, none at all.

I don't dislike Reeves, but apparently Sullivan does as he won't play him. This might be solved by mid season by bringing up a line of Simon, Blueger and Sprong. If they did that you could have lines 1a, 1b, 3a and 3b all capable of playing offense.

IDK. They're missing 3 forwards right now. Hopefully some of the young guys get a bit of a look.

Whats wrong with Sid? Is he tired, hurt, or just disinterested?
Last night, He and Malkin and Phil looked disinterested for much of the game.

If Sully is crushing his top 9 now, they will all be too tired to succeed in the playoffs later in the year.

Why are you all here ripping RW with the " Ryan Reaves sucks" and "anyone can play PK" sarcasm?
The bottom 6 was gashed in the summer and was replaced with a goon and a bunch of 4th liners who dont drive play. And what does Reaves do anyway? I see Sid and our stars receiving head shots on a nightly basis. If he isnt going to deter that, why is he here? Its certainly not because he plays hockey well.
And the PK problem has more to do with back to back Champs not wanting to block shots and lay everything out in November. None of them want to exert the energy or risk the injury required to be good PKers. That will improve with time.

To your first statement, I remember that exact rhetoric regarding Sid during the cup run two years ago. I remember it getting so bad that he even made a comment after a game saying something pretty close to "I guess it's because I don't care." Sid's sub-par play didn't rebound until a few games after Sully took over. He'll come around.

Malkin and Phil have had very good seasons. Yeah, Malkin has been a mess a few games this season, but overall he's been good and Phil has been just great his year.

Some of the Pens big guys are clearly feeling some sort of burnout, Letang obviously needed to be eased back in. He doesn't have his sea-legs back yet and the bottom six is just not making it hard for teams play against nor generating enough REAL chances.

I honestly didn't expect much this year. My guess was the Pens were going to have long period of struggle due to burnout, but I still believe they can be a better team than they are know if they tweak some of the personnel.

I'm with you that they'll become more consistent and better as the season goes on. I'm guessing that around the 50 game mark most of the questions will be put to rest.

And, yeah, some tweaking will happen too.

Pens purging high danger scoring chances while not generating enough. The bottom six is the main culprit and needs to be addressed.

Didn't Sheanah fix that? But serously, call up sprong, and trade the devs for Henrique.

This isn't it. At 5v5: 11th in HDCF/60, 25th in HDCA/60, 17th in HDC%. Not good, but also not terrible.

5v5 high danger shooting percentage: second to last.
5v5 shooting percentage: last.
5v5 save percentage: second to last.
5v5 PDO: last.

The team doesn't lack finishing skill. The lion's share of the minutes are going to guys who were also on the team last year. It's just luck.

They just need to take the Vegas route and sacrifice Reaves to the PDO gods. Although he's probably not worth much.

The lion's share going to the to top guys is what's hurting the team. They're unable to really spread the wealth as far as minutes and game situations between all four lines.
