Konecny is a 2nd year 20 year old player. Seriously on one hand people want kids in the lineup but then overreact when they don't produce at times.
- nastyflyergirl

They also want the coach to perform a miracle and find the line combinations that makes it all gel together. It's frustrating and patience is running thin but I still look to the future and see a bright light.

This...

"VLC...The fact that he played as long as he did and was tried everywhere substantiates the belief that they wanted to make this move work despite the obvious to all but the brass."

And...

"The Weise move...has been apparent since shortly after the move that he doesn't add much of what was expected yet he continues to play not only a regular shift, but now has been given PP time. Very strange."

Finally...

"Lehtera...was just the cost of picking up the second 1st rounder. A strict salary dump on StL's part. It still didn't mean he had to play, yet he has of late providing, as expected, very little..."

See. Instead of looking for false facts, if you would take your time and read the entire narrative to try and understand the point, you wouldn't have these misconceptions. Or maybe I'm just not being clear enough, which is a possibility.

I think Konecny is one of the last guys to take any blame on this. It's been a bad stretch. Patrick has been out, Simmonds is dinged, Weal has been dinged and the other guys haven't picked up any slack. It's a team effort and outside of the top line, no one has stepped up and gotten them a win or two. I think they're a proven top 9 forward shy of being a pretty good team.
- fls13

Bill made a comment about Konecny to paraphrase playing too much as an individual and running around. I don't fault the effort but I think that is a symptom of a lack of continuity which is caused by the injuries and having to shuffle people around. In the beginning of the season they were far more cohesive as a team. I think they need to get healthy, get people in the right slots and go from there.

Got to meet Provy today, who was pretty genuine. You could tell he was a bit wide eyed when it came to it, but before the cameras and huge lines we were just shooting the poop. Maybe that's because I was similar in age and not hitting him with rapid fire questions, but he was a pretty cool guy. We actually ended up talking a little about Gudas' impending suspension and what he'd like to see happen with the D. I asked I wonder if we see big Sam and he smiled and said "I wouldn't complain about it!" Then he mentioned Amac was skating, and at the end of the day he's "comfortable playing with anyone out there".

Got other autographs from Myers, Sanheim, Morin, NAK, Martel, Coots, and Laughton. Jake was clowning, but unfortunately he had to leave before I could beat him in the ladder throw. Coots was pretty good at it, I was no match for him. I jokingly asked him why he had his teeth in and he joked back he's gotta look good for the girls

NAK and Martel were having a blast- they were together near one of the games on the ice. They were totally soaking up the attention. Morin too, he was by himself mobbed by people. You couldn't miss him though. Big smiles and outgoing personalities. Martel caught a stick in the eye a few games ago apparently, and I pointed it out and he said "yeah someone was trying to make me look mean I guess". As I was leaving NAK and Martel I said hope to see you guys with the big boys soon and they both went "oh buddy you have no idea".

I beat Sanheim in cornhole. Just saying. He was kind of a character, trying to distract me as I was throwing. Laughton was kind of shy, but still had no problems interacting when it came down to it. He was Sanheim's partner for cornhole. Me and some staff volunteer guy took them down. Stick a fork in em both.

Konecny was clowning around too, but I didn't have time to meet him. He was laughing a lot though and so were the people coming to see him. He seems like a real character, it's not surprising he gets under peoples' skin on the ice with how much he talks off of it!

I also saw Jonesy, took a pic with him and wished him a belated birthday. He said "I've gotten a lot of those, I guess that's what happens when you get old!" I laughed and said don't be so hard on yourself you could still play with these guys to which he said "yeah I'd slash them then sit in the box all game" Saw Coatsey in passing, shook his hand. Took a pic with Bernie as well, such a nice dude. Not the first time I've met him but I never get tired of it- nobody has that genuinely happy twinkle in their eyes like Bernie.

Got glimpses of G, Simmer, Ghost, and Patrick as they came out from the locker room when I was waiting for Provy. Patrick had on leather high top Converse and skinny jeans with his jersey. It's easy to forget some of these guys are 19-23 yrs old, and I had to chuckle at that glaringly 19 yr old fashion choice. He was stopped by a few elementary schoolers waiting for their own respective players, and happily obliged autographs and a quick picture.

This was my first carnival. Hopefully not my last but definitely my most memorable. Hopefully some of these guys end up being good so I can use that puck to pay off my loans

Yeah it is a sobering thought. I was 9 when they clinched in 75 and now I just turned 52. Its been a damned long wait.

At a recently turned 49, I'm more calm and probably more pragmatic....and loyal to a fault. I'm hopeful in my Flyers and Eagles and will be shocked more then anything else when they win....after attending a funeral for the sudden death of a 48 year old last week I hope I get that chance before my "swimming with fishes moment". One can dream...lol.

And I don't mind a young guy trying to do too much at times when the team is struggling. It's a lot better than rolling over. Those kinds of things are the things that get smoothed over with experience.

I hope they get healthy for a while and see if they can get back on track. It's certainly doable. I don't think it was a mirage we saw in October. On the other hand, forward depth could be a real issue and at least a couple guys on the current big club roster might need to get pushed out for this team to make a serious playoff run this year.

The D, on the other hand, looks pretty good to me and have handled availability issues more than well enough. It will be interesting to see if we see Morin vs VAN.

I agree although I'm not expecting a serious playoff run this season. When some more of the younger players are deemed ready they'll be called up and we'll see where were at. It's an ongoing process.

As I get older I think my patience is just wearing (Hey you kids get off of my lawn). Trying not to be so judgmental moving forward, and truly realize "It is what It is"....My impatience stems from being closer now to a dirt nap then our last Cup....My decades of optimism window is closing too frigging fast, thus causing skewed impatient vision at times...

I totally get it as a loooooong time fan but when hextall took over as GM the mantra changed to draft and develop and once that happened the reality was it was going to take time. esp being the Flyers will always still try to win now as well as move towards the future

Hextall was named GM in May of 2014. It's not fair to put the 14/15 season on him, so this is basically his 3rd season with his imprint on the team. Patience is running thin and frustration setting in but it's still early. I watched some of the carnival where they interviewed some of the players, and they look like kids! It's really early for a lot of these players that are hopefully going to make up the core of a team that will be a top team for considerable period of time. It's coming.

I think it's there for them. I think the biggest issue is looking like the same as last year, lack of forward depth. They seem to have an adequate top 9 when fully healthy but the drop has been significant when one 19 year old rookie coming off hernia surgery goes down. We saw the opposite of that when they traded for one center in his mid 30s last year and suddenly things started clicking. It's a league where few teams are really stacked. It won't take much to get to the next level. I'd ride the status quo for the week and see what happens but I have to think about looking at a Phantom top producer to try to make something happen. It's getting to the point where Hextall should do something and the other options are sacking Hakstol or making a trade and I certainly don't advocate those moves.

Hextal has been in charge for 4 drafts now and already 4 kids are key members of the team and the phantoms are a team with some legit prospects and loaded still playing amateur.

I don't see Hextall operating that way. He's going to let this team ride. He's not going to call up any young players until he thinks they're ready to make the jump unless he is forced by injury. What's best for a young players development will take precedence over a perceived need on the Flyers. Hextall is going to overcook young players until he think they're ready.

Scoring wasn't the issue yesterday so hopefully they can get the sloppiness straightened out and start piling up some points again. They need four out of six this week. If things get bad enough, Hextall will do something. I think he'll ride with the Dmen and goalies but he does have options with the forwards and it's getting to the point where he should consider them.

He has options but he isn't going to let what is happening with the Flyers change how he feels about a young player and their readiness to play in the NHL.
