OH my god, these Winter Classic games suck.

I love that Buffalo/Pittsburgh got the first one, and call me a homer, but I love that Buffalo is in the 10th anniversary game... but why isn't it against Pittsburgh?

And why have the same 6 teams played every other year? Stadium Series has also ruined the luster of an outdoor game.

Stop with the madness.

Have the Winter Classic every year, the Heritage Classic every 5 years and only between Canadian clubs, and then do a Stadium Series game here and there, but no more than one per season and between smaller market teams, maybe even in neutral sites.

But they need to have some different teams exposed. Can you imagine a Winter Classic between Minnesota and Dallas in a place like North Dakota, where hockey is madness, absolute madness, and both teams wore North Stars-inspired uniforms?

I get it, half the reason Buffalo even got a Winter Classic to begin with was proximity to Canada, but you're telling me a Winter Classic between Tampa Bay and Columbus wouldn't sell the (frank) out? Columbus is larger than Cleveland at just shy of a million people, and even Cleveland is 100k larger than Buffalo. If Buffalo can host an Outdoor game, Columbus for sure could, even if it had to be in Cleveland at the Browns or Indians stadium.

My god this league is so terribly mismanaged it's a miracle if we aren't headed toward another lockout within the next 3-5 years.

While I agree that more teams need to be incorporated, I don't think that Columbus would be a good add. They do have a large city population, but the Metro population isn't as large as Cleveland's. Plus, much of that metro population roots for other teams still. They just don't have the national fan base of someone like buffalo.

However, I love the Minnesota idea. I also would love to see Tampa against a division rival.

Also, I understand that Chicago and Boston have a long history, but it's not something that's relevant today. The build ups to the Pens/Capitals game, the Flyers /Rangers, the Montreal/Boston game....they were all great! There's just no story here with next year's classic that most people will care about.

Update.. A GM in the West just called to ask me if I've heard anything... I told him the Habs are holding everything up right now. He told me that Bergy might be fired very soon. If the Habs lose to the Leafs tonight, Galchenyuk will definitely be traded to a team in the West for a former All star defenseman. The GM also tells me that he's hearing rumblings that the Calgary Flames might be moving to Houston for next season and be renamed the Houston Samsquanches. More to come... Stay tuned...

Outdoor games are an absolute joke now. At first they had the cool factor now just a Bettman money grab.
