If Tavares doesn’t sign in NYI or Toronto I hope he goes to a Minnesota or some team like that. Play twice a year. No repercussions to not signing him. Until leafs beat him in the final and it hits him.... right in the feels... that the choice was the Leafs all along. And he picked the wrong team and goes on ltir for sadness - GOLEAFS71

Leafs need to move on from Gardiner. Liljegren will fill in nicely when he's gone next year. Also keep Komarov for cheap and trade Hyman. Someone will pay a lot for him. Trade JVR for sure - Arctic_AARDVARK
Seiously, fellas:
Lilybust is not going to be able to replace Gardiner's minutes next year. He's a mid-first pick. Very rare that guys like that are effective d-men in the NHL in their first couple of years.
More likely he will be a flaming train wreck for his first few years - that's kinda the norm for offensive defencemen. |

It's extremely rare for a rookie defense at any pick to replace top 4 mins. They usually get an insane amount of offensive zone starts and are sheltered heavily. We are looking at 3-4 years until he is a top 4 defense |

He's no way near as good as McDavid.
He'll get paid more than McDavid.
Lou's a rookie - walshyleafsfan
He hates playing for the Leafs
He will want to sign the minimum to get to FA and for the max amount of dollars
But in the end he is a 2nd line center who is going to be on a sophomore slump |

What's the word on Matthews for tonight? I am wondering if he comes back, will the rest of our boys take there foot off the pedal? I have a feeling they will 'let up' mentally upon the saviours return to the line up. I don't want that to happen, especially against les habs... I would like a good trashing tonight...

The Canadiens are coming off arguably their worst performance of the season — a 5-4 loss to the lowly Arizona Coyotes — and they may be shorthanded going into this game. Max Pacioretty, Jonathan Drouin and Jordie Benn all missed practice Friday with the flu and coach Claude Julien said he has no idea whether they will be available to face the Leafs. This game ends a six-game homestand for the Canadiens, who are 2-2-1 in that stretch.
If drouin, Ben and Craporetty can't play and Matthews can |

How rookies play on their respective teams has much to do with the team on which they land. If this was the mid 70's or 80's crappy Leafs- rushing every d-man into the NHL team (example Randy Carlyle in 76-78 was a a bust on a terrible Leaf team then went to the Pens and won a Norris) - then I might be inclined to agree with you. This team is loaded with talent, it makes a difference - Liljegren will be up come playoff time and contributing - just like Marner was last year - contrary to most of the speculation around these parts.

He will get heavily sheltered like any rookie d man.

If Carlson hit FA I hope the leafs would be licking their chops. He'd be an amazing add. - Santo_44

I had such high expectations for Nielson,I thought he would be a lot farther along.Loved his physicality in Lethbridge. You have to be patient with those young defenders though he could still turn into a beauty.Maybe down the road Babcock and the Leafs could help him develop more. |

This is why you have a Martin on the team, there will be times you will need him.
I do agree though that the fourth line would look a lot better with some skill on it.

I'd like a 4th line with at least 2 guys that can fight.
Martin has good value for the team; people that don't understand that don't know their hockey.
Next year I could see Leafs' 4th line being
Martin - Moore - Komarov
(Edit: Komarov obviously isn't a figher). |

the unfortunate thing in that whole affair was the "Turtleneck" came away unscathed... after starting the whole in the first place. |
