Do you honestly believe that Greg Carey or Cole Bardreau would change anything? Let's be serious here.
- MJL

Maybe they do, maybe they don't but I don't see why a team wouldn't try to change something up. Same thing was said about Weal and he did eventually get called up and gave them a spark. I see ZERO harm in calling someone up in Weiss' place who has not played well. I was fine with his signing because I liked the way he played in Montreal and was hoping his play in Chicago was just a bad fit but he has not played well here minus a handful of games. I sooner see someone else not named Lehtera and Read given a look in Weiss' place

Lack of secondary scoring? Do all those folks that argued trading Schenn was not a step backwards (this year) want to amend their statements?
- coffee junkie

I don't think there was a single person who didn't admit that trade was a step backward for the present when the trade went down. that trade was 100% about the future. Schenn's name was placed in just about every trade proposal by fans and now people are whining about moving him.

Per Hakstol he wasn't getting PP or PK time that game. The game had a lot of Special teams play.

Wiese has the Flyers last goal not scored by the top line. Raffl has been just as bad as Wiese. Zero points in 19 games is hard to believe. I bet even VDV never went 19 games in between points with the Flyers. Does it surprise you that VDV was a regular with the Flyers for basically 3 years, and now the guy is out of the NHL?

8 losses in 11 games now. I know the season isn't at the quarter pole yet, but things are really trending in a bad direction.

The lack of secondary scoring is the biggest issue. I think Hextall has to do something to shake things up. At least try calling up Lindblom, Martel, or Vecchione. Maybe they give the team a boost, maybe they don't.

Very reckless play by Gudas last night. I would think he probably gets 5 games minimum. I guess one positive is the goaltending has been pretty good lately. Disappointing to not put points in the bank when this is the case.

This just means that when the Flyers start scoring again Elliot will be letting up 3-5 goals a game

The Flyers have historically never been a franchise that promotes an AHL player to the big club without an injury or suspension being involved.

I think we concluded that Giroux was the last player to be called up mid season (the 2nd time, not the emergency injury call up) to replace a non injured player in the lineup.

It's just not something that the Flyers do very often.

When is the last time they had a deep prospect pool?

obviously you don't get two first round picks with out giving up something up. Schenn really looks good this year, I've been able to watch a few of their games. My only issue with the trade was the fact that Schenn is still a young player....but, after they moved up in draft it was apparent they probably wanted to move out a top 6 guy so not to stagnate Patrick....at least that's how I viewed it. Its now up to Hextall to determine who wins that trade...he needs to hit on the draft assets he traded for.

Sad, but most likely true. Elliott was pretty bad in the shootout. Goals on 3 of 4 shots is rough. Coaches change, players change, yet the abysmal shootout results continue year after year.

The laughs under Holmgren are enough to sustain you for decades.

JVR for Luke Schenn wouldn't fly in the land of video game dorks.

- PLindbergh31

My reaction to the trade at the time...Schenn...Nice wait for who? I really did like JVR. if two players are equal in skill I always opt for size and I liked his size with his skill. Oh well.

that said while Holmgren made his share of mistake which I really think were due to trying so damn hard to get over the 2010 hump but he also made good moves you fail to recognize. Great GM? no. Terrible GM? also no. he was ok. I want better than ok so I was happy he was replaced but I really think its not being objective to say all was terrible.

Not sure your assessment of Raffl is fair. His role on that line has been puck possession behind the dots and he has fed numerous high risk chances into the slot to both Laughton and Lier. Its unfortunate they haven't potted more but Raffl has been doing his job and doing it well.

Schenn looks like a different player this year....Did he just figure it out or was it the Flyers? It's not like they dealt a 30 year old. The next few years may show this trade to be a disaster, although looking at Morgan Frost the other night, he has the chance to be a very good player....fingers crossed.
- landros 2

did you see the backhand pass? kid does have skill. Hopefully he and whoever they get this year develop. I do wonder if maybe sometimes it takes a player being moved to click or maybe its just the situation he is in. We saw the flashes here.

The biggest problem with the trade of JVR was he was traded at a time his value was at an all time low. He was coming off an injury riddled season. When I saw all the Leafs fans laughing and celebrating I knew the trade was going to be a bomb. I had seen L. Schenn play, but not every game. I knew he didn't bring any offense and was pretty immobile. Not a great combination.

Have we gotten to the "trade all of ours for all of yours" yet or are we still on Player X from Lehigh Valley is totally fixing this problem?

It's a results based business. When the results aren't there people are going to question things. That is how sports work. I was reading the Blackhawks thread after they blew a 3 goal lead to the Devils and majority of the people in there were shredding everything. And look at the success the Hawks have had the last 8 years.
- PLindbergh31

Right, of course, but there's a difference between stating an opinion and proclaiming that "solutions are obvious" and management/coaching is "incompetent."

If what's posted here is so "obviously right" how can it be that Flyers management/coaching can't/doesn't see it? Or that the management/coaching of other teams can't/don't see it?

I submit that it's just not that easy nor are solutions to issues "obvious."

Posters here claim that certain other posters are smugly black/white. I submit that those posters live in glass houses.

My favorite part of this whole stretch of play for the Flyers is going to be when AMac gets back and they start winning again and watching people fall all over themselves explaining it.
