No, it wasn’t warranted. A major if I’m not mistaken is for internet to injure. Without being in Gudas’s head we will never know but I have a problem with using peripheral vision to intent to injure by lumberjacking a players head.
If it wasn’t called right away then it can’t get called honestly.

Major penalties are not just for intent to injure. I think it's a penalty and good shot to the head with the stick but I'm not sure it reaches the level of a major penalty. It looked accidental to me but that doesn't make it not a penalty. What happened with the ref conference is legal and within the rules but you can't help but feel the replays on the scoreboard played into it which would be for all intents of purposes a review of a non review able play. Just doesn't sit right.

Watching replays I’m thinking Gudas and stick swing was more of a balance issue than I’m mad that you took my helmet off.
If you call a penalty right away then fine.
Jumbotron calls are BS. Can’t referee a game that way then after whistles why not call that behind the play trip or slashing no one saw minutes later.
