10 minutes of special teams play in this period...not good for the hawks but they did kill 6 min of ranger pp..a team that is clicking along at 25% |

Ranger goal was a horrible shift by Wingles and Rutta. Not sure what a winger should be doing down below the goal line! It was on our center and the strong D. Goal was scored from 7 feet from a pass below goal line, not typically areas the wing is responsible for. |

Milbury an Roenick calling out the Hawks.....and rightfully so.
Youth making mistakes, I get it but where are the veterans, terrible all around.
Q has lost this team and player leadership appears to be missing or looks that way....not getting the feeling that players are going all out for each other?

figured they would...as Q like to say about players contributing to their team game: they don't have any...no structure, no pace..
on the pp i saw toews and saad almost take each other out at the blueline

I agree, its not happening this year for our team barring something INSANE.
And if that's the verdict, how do things POSSIBLY get better moving forward with these same pieces? They don't IMO. The only way out of this from where we're at(average team with as you said maybe the potential to find another gear to bring us to the 2nd tier of top teams....but still not good enough for the Cup) is to make MAJOR changes ASAP. Just my opinion.
Toews, Kane, Seabrook, and Keith aren't going to get any better, and if we wait another season to try to build around these guys we might not EVER be able to get rid of them because they will have regressed to such an extreme point(Seabrook is just about already there IMO).
We need to make changes in the front office, and get a new head coach to jumpstart the new look team he will be taking over with a new and improved system/style of play(maybe even a PP that isn't utterly pathetic).
So, no matter how tricky it might be to find the right deals, move 19, 88, 7, 2, and probably others like Anisimov, Panik, Murphy, etc.....with the only goal being to pile up as many top draft picks and high end prospects as possible with those trades.
Tank the rest of this season and next season to add more top draft picks.
If this franchise gets young and talented FAST(like the White Sox just did for example)...and stops wasting time trying to sustain what is obviously a lost cause....I believe it has a great chance to bounce back rapidly and become a powerhouse. I believe the majority of fans will understand, and will see the goal of becoming great ASAP and winning more Cups ASAP instead of seeing it as "omg why are we trading our best players for draft picks!?!?". - SimpleJack
I would be willing to see this approach but I doubt McDonough would agree, at least not whole heartedly.
When you say it might be tricky moving some players, the trickiest part is whether anything of value comes back to us. A middle round choice, for example, is a roll of the dice - have enough of those picks, some might pan out as what ........middling bottom line players in a few years. Or small percentage a pick from that draft range develops into a fast second line forward or second pair dman. So i am more just glad to move a big contract and whatever with the draft pick is practicly a bonus ....a surprise bonus. |

Schmaltz was caught puck-looking on that goal.
It almost looks like he has no idea what to do in defensive zone coverage.
He's great at picking pockets in the o-zone and neutral zone but Schmaltz needs to be much, much better in his own zone. That's all preventable... coaching staff needs to drive that home.

Can't even make D to D passes cleanly.
And Seabrook needs to visit the pressbox for a few games. Just plain terrible. |
