Is it fair to say that him taking 90% of the defensive zone draws is wearing on him?

I know that’s exaggerating,
but it seems like the only times he’s put in offensive situations is on the PP

Can someone look up his zone starts % ?

- jdfitz77

I think he was around 30% offensive zone starts tonight.

It’s worth watching the replay of this one tonight or tomorrow if u get a chance
- jdfitz77

Yeah, definitely going to.

I don’t mind these type of losses. Yeah they suck, but it’s worth watching

What quality prospect, though? I'd really hate to part with Brycen Martin, but if it gets the job done, then...
- sskkoo1

Seriously?
I’ll drive Martin to the airport if he gets the deal done

What makes u like him?
Demoted to the ECHL last year bc he was so bad

Rochester signed Vets like Nathan Paetsch, Andrew McWilliams & Barry Goers to play there this year instead of Martin
He’s been in the ECHL all year again

I think it’s safe to say he’s not a prospect u can project much from at this point

Love your optimism sir!

Post more

Lol. It's easy as a Pens fan who casually enjoys the Sabers. I don't have to deal with the years worth of suffering. But, from what I see, and what I know of Botterill, Buffalo's going to be really good.

Some frustrating moments for sure,

The Pens are just better & it eventually showed

Seems like that’s the norm

Tough to expect energy in the offensive end when he’s spending the game just trying to get the puck out of our own end all the damn time

No, that was just sarcasm. Helen Keller is better at hockey than Martin.

Ooooooooh, my bad
Hard to tell “tone” sometimes

Yeah...
we’ve got Guhle coming,
& hopefully Borgen will work out
But besides that,
I’m not expecting much from any of the other defensive prospects

It's in the mid 60's defensive.

Edit: 63.3%

Seems like a lot

If we can’t have a 3rd line that’s gonna score with some consistency...
then they at least need to be good enough defensively to free up the O’Reilly line to play in some more offensive situations

I think we’ve scored like 2 or less goals in 75% of our games
That’s not gonna cut it
Especially if we trade Kane

It is an insane amount. 55% is nearing insane levels. Only one year in his career did he ever start in the O-Zone more than the D-Zone, and it was the 29 games he played in the lockout year and it was 50.3% O-Zone. His career average is 54.2% D-Zone. Toews is 59.4% O_zone, Bergeron is 53.1% D-Zone, Kopitar is 52.6% O-Zone. All those defensive/two way centers can't hold a candle to ROR as far as actual defensive assignments are concerned. Bergeron is the closest and he's more than a full point off.

People get pissed that ROR is "invisible". Not really, he's just stuck playing defense all (frank)ing game.

Good research
I could see that he was being put in defensive situations a lot...
Thought it was pretty obvious

But I guess all the “experts” on here haven’t noticed

Sure, he is a streaky player, just like every other guy in the league, so when he's not scoring you really don't notice him in the O-Zone, because he rarely plays there.

Housley coached for hockey tonight.

He didn’t coach for this team.
He didn’t coach for this game.

Usually, hockey strategy says a road team fights for lead in 3d and shuts it down and hangs on.

The strength of this team is the offense. We were up 2 and choked it up. We went ahead but choked it up. We went ahead again, but choked it up. We win by going ahead, not by shutting it down.

Also, the mental fragility of this team is well known. Instead of coaching them in a way that showed confidence in them, he coached in a way that showed a lack of confidence.

Housely used general hockey strategy, but not the best strategy for HIS team in this game.

Let’s hope he learns

I think a lot of first year coaches make these kind of mistakes, but hopefully he does learn.
