You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villan. |

Yet they're only three games out of first - Scoob Well the upcoming Division games is worrisome especially against Dev and Rags they have already won the third and fourth line battle because Hak is putting a scrub like Weasel against speed stickhandling and physicality

I watched some video on Martel after all the hype. I don't see his game translating all that well. He didn't particularly impress me with his skating and he took risks that would be going the other way in the nhl a lot. He benefits from the lack of structure in the ahl he would be largely contained in a tight checking game. This is why it's hard for me to trust box scores or stat lines. My best comparison is that he's a smaller slower poor man's tk. - Tfaehner
5'8 160 lbs vs 5'10 185 lbs is a pretty sizable difference. Weal is also a better skater imo. But yes I had some similar reservations. Weal still has not proven to be a consistent nhl player he could just as easily be a fringe guy again by contract end. - Tfaehner
Not sure what video you just watched, but I've seen him plenty over the years. I agree that whether he can play an NHL structured game and be competent in his own end is the major thing, but we can't know that until we see it. The Phantoms are unstructured in general. Meanwhile, most of the Flyers roster can't even score in a loose checking game, let alone a tight one. There is a place in the NHL for speed and skill and risk-taking and rush oriented play. In fact, it's a burgeoning demand. It's funny how those attributes actually can break open tight checking games.
Martel is also very fast, so I'm not sure at all where that's coming from. I think he has the same speed up-ice as TK. Weal is pretty average as a skater with speed IMO; it's an issue. He won't blow past anyone. What he is is smart gaining the zone and shifty in it. Martel is 100% faster than him and probably by a decent amount. And he's not 160lbs. I just don't believe it. That's what he was weighed at years ago in the Q. He's really well-built if you see him in pictures. I'd wager to say he's 170-175 if measurements were properly done today. Pound for pound he handles himself and works his ass off. |

i don't see why he can't get a shot with the coyotes...it's not like they're solid in goal yet. |

I'm pullin for him. That team is such a mess it's kinda sad. Leighton is an upgrade over both guys in the minors. |

Absolutely! Martel plays bigger than his size and has some nasty in his game. He reminds me a bit of Danny Briere in that respect. All the guy does is score goals, haven't we all been wanting a shoot first kind of guy? I'd much rather be giving this kid a shot than watching Weise fumble the puck and accomplish nothing. |

He's too small to inject into this lineup. You want your 3rd and 4th lines to have size you see?
Might as well not waste a pick on the smaller guys if you aren't going to play them, in a rebuild year.
If you dont want Martel you have others to choose from, hell even Colic Mac. Club loves its zombies. All this roles talk is dinosaur thinking, again not keeping up with league trends. |

Some team is going to have to win with a small line up to break that trend.
It's never happening IMO. |

I dont advocate for a small team. I advocate for a team with generally the most skilled players, and a heavy focus on overall skating/speed.
Flyers chose to invest in these smaller skilled players. If you wont play them, especially when you have a choice of benching Weise/Lehtera then dont bother drafting them.
I'd love for one of the media guys to ask the rationale for making the above decision. Flyers play Konec, Ghost and Weal, I'd say they are helping them win more than not. |
