believe it or not burke about half of this team is a burke pick or trade. nylander, jvr, bozak, kommarov? , kadri, brown yes brown, gardiner, and reilly. just sayin. and burke for all his faults is totally right about the media here. even if he spins it in his favor here. hughson and simpson leaf haters all the way. hughson is a canucks fan and simpson back in the day wrote to the leafs in his draft year for them not to draft him. the fact is the majority of toronto media are trolls. nothing more nothing less. the media here mostly ....not all.. but mostly our the enemies of leafs nation and our destructive towards the ultimate goal of us winning a cup. thank God we have the best management team in hockey to fight this. for the love of god guys send something to the cbc about those 2 clown leaf haters on cbc. i have. and a couple friends at work. if ya can get a 4th liner to the allstar game. we can get rid of hughson and simpson.

For the first time in ages, maybe ever, the Leafs have a number of things:

1. A management group and coaching staff that isn't manipulated by the media
2. Doesn't have internal leaks about their (potential) dealings
3. Competency
4. An insane list of credentials
5. Respect from the entire league
6. A plan
7. Patience
8. Toronto becoming a more attractive destination
9. Ownership that cares about winning
10. Buy-in and patience in the team's plan and direction from the fan base

For years we had to deal with a revolving door of idiots, blowhards, puppets, inexperience, quick fixes, lack of vision and easily manipulated fools. Cleaning house of pathetic ownership, management and players is what needed to happen decades ago, but nobody had the balls or vision to do so until now.

There isn't a team and fan base that has suffered more than us. Sure, other teams have had their trials, tribulations and droughts, but not on this scale. Not with a fan base this large and this loyal.

Morons like Simmons, Feschuk, Cox, along with Leafs haters and fans of other teams continue to try find something negative about the state of this team, but it's becoming harder and harder, and the more they try the dumber they look and sound... So let them.

Good times are ahead and thank (frank)ing God they're finally here! Soak it in.

I pretty much give most of the credit to Shanahan.
He came in with an open mind and listened, he didnt tell everyone he had the answers from Day 1.

Whether thats fair to give him pretty much all the credit, I dont know..but I do
I was never a big fan of his when playing, mostly because he was awesome and on other teams..but when he talks its easy to listen to him, he is not Burke arrogance and Nonis cluelessness

I heart Shanny

Apologies for coming into your Sacred room. (Ooooooommmmmm)

What the heck am I supposed to do now..... Burke...aka... The Dark Lord Sith Master Burke..... hates the Toronto Media.... aka the Kindergarten Teacher. (The fans themselves are the Kinder....never mind, I will go on.)

So the guy I hate, hates the group I hate.

What's a guy like me to do? Whose side do I take?

Now Leaving the Sacred room. (Oooooommmmmmm)

Ironically enough, you're pretty much the Brian Burke of HB...

An over opinionated mook who loves nothing more than hearing his own voice, offers little substance, doesn't know when to STFU or stay away and is proud of his little hate boner for the Leafs.

Nylander was a nonuts pick at the instruction of Shanahan to not pick the second coming of Freddy the Goat at 8th overall.

But if you want to point fingers, take a look at Nonis' drafting record:

2013:

Frederik Gauthier
Carter Verhaeghe
Fabrice Herzog
Antoine Bibeau
Andreas Johnsson

2014:

William Nylander
Rinat Valiev
J.J. Piccinich
Dakota Joshua
Nolan Vesey
Pierre Engvall

I don't think Nonis deserves a ton of credit for Nylander - it's not like he went off the board or anything, and it was the 8th overall.

After that, good lord, it's all terrible.

Nylander pick was awesome - only four first rounders of significant merit that draft year, and the Boston pick was pretty late. I would give the credit to Shanny. Nonis was a puppet after Burke was fired. At the end of the day though......it has more to do with the structure in place than an individual GM anyway. Look at the Oilers management team Ex players and booze buddies like McTavish and Keith Gretzky.... not exactly guys to compare with the fellows that Shanny has hired. We need a good guy for drafting.... um let's get Hunter, we need an analytics guy... how about Dubas? we need a cap guy... how about..... etc.

Perfect, was a good move and the start of what we see now. Leiweke left after the Teachers pension sold off the Leafs in 13. The ownership change was significant - TP had major tunnel vision.

Nylander was the Euro scout (Bergman?) pushing hard to get him, and Leafs finally wanting to give him an opportunity in first round. I guess because they weren't really sure that anyone else was definitely going to be better.

there's more than four first rounders of significant merit that year though - there's only a few first rounders that haven't worked out, it seems that was a very good draft class 1st round..

it's a bit ambiguous.
the question was '.. moving up to top three, and get a crack at tavares'
burkie literally replies: 'we could have done it - i mean, we could have made that pick'.

i understand he is referring to picking tavares there.

- MaximusAurelius[he then later says 'first or second pick']

https://youtu.be/xueiywGz8GM (from 5:15 onwards)

NYI stated that moving the 1st pick was never an option.
Burkes reply was in reference to 2nd or 3rd. He wanted to cocky but he knew as did everyone else, 1st was never in play.

Most had them picking Ritchie or Ehlers. Im happy with Nylander.....would have been happy with Ehlers too.
So glad we didnt get Ritchie.

so you didn't listen to the clip, that's ok.
I understand Burke is cocky, but he did suggest he could have 'made that pick' (referencing to Johnny T)

this might be the first year I'm down for the Leafs to trade that 1st round pick. Especially since they have two seconds. Thanks Polak

one minute onwards.

he specificially says the isles aren't moving the pick.

he also explicitly states that TB wanted schenn for the 2nd and he wasn't interested.

there was no tavares trade. and again, it doesn't pass the smell test. snow didn't trade schenn away the year before for nothing only to demand him back in a tavares trade.

Will he even play?? I feel like Babdong would play Martin with one arm over any other 4th line option because he has some sort of weird love for him.
- markmark

yeah, no room for sosh the way babcock runs things. which is why he probably gets traded.

just force him for a couple games so other teams can have a gander of how he looks in the nhl right now.

Well I just pointed out that Burkie said he could have picked Tavares.
Not too surprised that the guy is telling different stories there.. but I am aware that NYI was probably never going to trade the pick.
