Although maybe not a popular sentiment, but I would switch Raffl with Martel. - Konalover
Martel likely would be a poor fit to play Raffl's role. He'd either replace (or sub) for Weal or Konecny. That would be his role if he plays in the NHL: he has to be put in situations where you are looking to produce offense. |

Aren't those the same (frank)ers that won the last 2 cups...?
I would happily see G and Provy at minus 100 following two Cups.

Raffl is not quite lighting the scoresheet, he has the same amount of points as Matt Read in 12 more games....0 - Konalover
I wonder if leier Laughton weal might be able to jump start weal |

I totally understand your logic about Martel.
I think I'm being a bit glib about Raffl due to his lack of any offense.
I would just like to see Raffl as guy that last year made a few sweet power moves for goals. I'd even take a shin pad goal or 2 from Raffl.

Absolutely, every goal scored against them takes a little chunk from each of those Cups.
While we continue to hope and pray and pray and pray for at least another shot to play for a Cup 2010 or win a cup so long ago I have to take my shoes off to do the math.
I hope we have guys all our team +40 and again sadly we won't be playing for a Cup.

Flyers may have a decent shot in a few years, if one of the goalie prospects turns out well and the D develops as expected.
Need some more star power up front, wont win with a bunch of average-ish 200 foot guys. Need another young upper tier guy other than (hopefully) Patrick. |

I’m down. Again, need more star power up front. Once G and V are geriatrics who makes up the talent of the forward core? |

With Patrick out, I'd think about tweaking the lines a bit. Yeah, I know coaches rarely make changes after wins, but they are really a one line team right now. Sure the 4th line generates chances, but the line lacks a good finisher to take advantage of them. With that in mind, I'd try:
The usual top line
TK-Filppula-Weal
TK was really driving play last game and Weal is always strong on the puck and has good skills. Perhaps putting them together gives the Flyers another line that can generate some offense at ES
Leier-Laughton-Simmonds
Leier and Laughton have been relentless on the forecheck and maybe Simmonds can crash the net and give them someone to finish.
Raffl-Lehtera-Weise
I'd rather have a decent possession player with size like Raffl with these 2 than a speedy skill guy like Weal. Hopefully this line will at least hold its own in the 8-10 minutes it's out there. - BiggE
I'd roll with that to try to get the other lines going

I’d simply add in Colin Mac and that kid with the hot streak down in the A to the 4th line. I don’t buy that he needs a top 9 only role to make it.
Lehtera and Weise shouldn’t see the ice at all. |

I remember thinking Crosby looked cooked at the beginning of last year (or was it the season before)....look how that ended up. |

I dunno man, it’s possible one of them becomes one but I think you need that ever elusive star quality you know? Doesn’t have to be McDavid but you know what I mean. |

Rubtsov has the wheels and skills to possibly be that guy, Frost has potential too. |

The question you asked is "who makes up the talent of the forward core?". I know you think everything is doom and gloom with the Flyers.

He's a plus skater and certainly skates well enough to play on a 4th line in the NHL.
