Simmonds could net a high pick in a trade. Zadina is listed as a LW tho. If we're trading Simmonds I would definitely prefer a natural RW coming back

With Voracek and Konecny hopefully locking down RW spots for the long haul, and then guys like Allison, Laczynski, Marody, etc. in the pipeline, along with others like Rubtsov and Kase that could play either wing, I'm not worried about that. It's always BPA. Zadina is a pipe dream and would appear to require a hefty trade-up, but too many good LWs or RWs is not a bad problem, and I don't think it will be one. Even Giroux could now presumably switch sides if need be.

I've accepted that they're not trading Simmonds. And if they do, in that slim likelihood, I imagine it's not for picks. It's either centered around a young NHL talent or young NHL ready talent, with a pick or another player added probably. I just don't see them trading him for a 17-18 year old as the centerpiece.

Yes, it's deep, and yes, it's deep for defense. I will say that doesn't preclude trading up, especially with the assets the Flyers have and a pool that might need quality over quantity given 50-contract limit/only so many AHL spots/etc. Flyers pretty much only draft CHL kids too up high, which often starts the clock sooner. If you target a player or two, go for a trade up, always. A deep draft based on consensus doesn't mean you don't have favorites. It's a very good draft to have 2 1sts though, but trading up with one several spots (not 10) sounds good depending.

But I don't believe you've actually seen Zadina. You're lying to me, to all of us, and it hurts bad. So bad. For real doe: given he seems like a top 5 pick right now, I don't think it's too realistic. I haven't seen much of him myself yet though, so I'll get better acquainted at some point to determine where I stand on him exactly.

I am not going to be mad if they trade up, because that means they will be aggressive in getting their guy, and you make good points about quality over quantity. Another point you didnt touch on is they have the prospect pool diversity to be specific and trade up.

With all that said, I still say that its my preference would be the general idea of quantity. Also, that contract limit is kinda bogus... there are about 6-8 minor league contracts they are likely to no extend. That gives them 11-13 contracts slots....but I think I remember reading (mayne even here?) they didnt sign Korsorenkov because of the contract numbers.
