Yeah, I actually like Gudbranson, but just not as a top 4 dman. To me he'd be a nice #5 dman to have that can play top 4 mins in short spurts when injuries occur or if the whistles get put away randomly(seems to be happening less and less, the West style of hockey is turning into more of a speed/skill game now too).

Even Don isn't willing to give him a hefty raise on his current salary and he's one of his bigger fans on this site. Paying Gudbranson top 4 dman money is a mistake, the highest I'd pay for a guy like him is around 3M-ish he's making now.

And Benning had this quote during the pre-season, another possible clue that Gudbranson could get traded during this season:

He doesn't score. Never has. If he can't score, doesn't matter if he can skate or punish people. He's a quality D that will never get paid the real money he would bring to the locker room. There's no price on leadership because you have to pay for scoring.

He's the new Marc Method who didn't get paid till he was 28 years old. If EG wants a long term contract, you better have a very high scoring dman for him to play with and it will be for around the 3 million per season mark.

Remember when most thought that Utica was going to be fun and awesome this year. Whatever happened to that? 5-5-1. 30 GF 31 GA.

It's rather funny listening to some fans almost in a state of panic last night

It's like people actually thought we were a contender and are in shock we got outplayed last night.

Why are everyones expectations so damn high suddenly when this team had zero expectations coming into the season.

I dont like what gudbranson brings, but i can understand and appreciate why a GM would want him. Having said that, gudbranson thinks hes a top 4 d on any team in this league and he really isnt. My issue is gudbranson will want top 4 money and wont deserve it. I would rather trade and fill with a more reliable and cheaper alternative. Pouliout is already leaps and bounds ahead of him imo

Plus a lot of that hype was back when people assumed they would have Dahlen, Goldobin and 1 of JV/Boeser down there. Instead it's just 1 of them.

Appears Chris Tanev will NOT require surgery on thumb. Should be out 2-3 weeks. Good news for #Canucks.

Want to see him play in a tougher league before getting too excited, he's pretty much doing what he should in "Sweden's AHL"

I have been a supporter of guddy but after last night not anymore. Hes here to protect our young guys and where was he when manson tried taking out bo, dorsett to the rescue no no no, although I like what dorsett does hes a lightweight, if guddy wasn't on the ice he should have targeted Silverberg and took a run at him next shift but nothing happened

He has the best PPG avg of drafted prospects in the Allsvenskan. Him and another guy are double what others are.
After his 3 point performance he will actually be the highest ppg player in the Allsvenskan of all players.

Like you said he should be beating up on the competition.

I really want him to come over to the AHL. Utica needs scoring. JB has got 2 months to clear a bit of room for him.

Im open for this discussion. What are the positive eye tests that gudbranson passes. And of those, where does he exceed past the average shutdown defender?
- Codes1087

Codes, and other stat nerds please look into this for me.

Gudbranson is highly effective at keeping players away from the crease.

He turns low volume high percentage shots against into high volume low percentage shots.

Basically, in plain speak, for every potential high danger shot against that would occur with an average defender he allows 1.3 more low danger shots through.

This, combined with his start zone ratio, results in a skewed corsi for, as well as bringing down mist fancy start values he'd otherwise have.

That being said, the allowing of 130 low danger shots rather then 100 high danger shots results in around 9 goals against at low risk shooting percentage average of 7 percent compared to 18 goals against with a high risk shooting area percent average of 18 percent.

TLDR
Gudbranson sucks at preventing sits but is elite at preventing goals.

Short TLDR
Gud is elite
