Chicago about as average as it gets.

I realize I'm being negative but based on what this team has showed me lately has been disappointing,
And if they come out flat after a layoff like this, I'm going to go nuclear tonight |

no mention if the defense can get a point shot on the net.
With Anisimov over the 50% mark on FO I guess that problem is solved.

Starts with the video tribute of Kate Smith singing God bless America! Do they still do that before the games instead of the Star-Spangled Banner? Simply awesome! Ranks right up there with Jimmy C. Here in Chicago! - wonthecup10
Kate is now in semi (rumor is permanent) retirement. She was only being used in a Duet with Lauren Hart for the last few seasons during big, read must win, games.
The rumor is when Ed Snider passed away they were going to stop doing it at any time. We will see if this is true or not in the near future. |

Out of any of the lines the 2nd one has the speed and size with Panik and Saad to be able to dump the puck in and go get it back. - TheTrob
But do they have the hands to maintain it after they get it - at least for enough time to set up and run someone to the net? |

"The Kids" 3rd line is what worries me. Too much inexperience and a small line physically. Hopefully Kane+Toews can work some magic and get Sharpie going. Glad to see Murphy staying in the lineup. I just don't see the necessary improvements in decision-making in the neutral zone and at the offensive blue line from Kempny. Forsling-Seabrook is a concern LOL but Keith-Rutta should be a solid pairing. FINALLY some Blackhawks' hockey...seems like it's been ages since their last game!! |

Justin,
Did you notice in preparation for today's game that our opponent has even more youth on their Blue line. The only veteran is Guskas. So this begs the question, how are the flyers dealing with all that youth? Do they have a coach just for the defensemen?
The Flyers have Giroux and Simmonds up front to match us in accredited star power. I bet their players play their system closer to the vest than Chicago has shown so far.
And i bet they have net front presence on a power play and a true qb on the pp.
Can we match |

If anyone is interested, Powers had a solid article where he looked at why Kane's 5v5 TOI has decreased and how this is likely impacting his production (which is still 14 points in 15 games, points in 10 of those games).
Article: https://twitter.com/TheAt...status/928631288608813056
The answer: the 5v5 time for the team is actually the lowest it's ever been under Q, which is a problem for a team whose best offensive threats (Kane, Toews, Saad) all perform better at 5v5 than anywhere else. The Hawks are averaging 42:01 TOI 5v5, which is 2nd to last in the league, and they've been top 10/15 every other year under Q. They're definitely calling penalties more, but the Hawks are typically one of the least penalized (top 5 pretty much since 2012), but now they're bottom 10. They're also getting more penalties drawn than before (1st in the league) but their PP sucks so that's not actually a good thing.
The article goes into more depth, but the key take away is that the Hawks are having some difficulty finding rhythm at 5v5 because they're just playing it as much or consistently as in the past. If they could weed out some of the penalties, that could definitely help them get more on track. Not having Kane on the ice as much is definitely hurting both him and the team as a whole. |

Chicago being average is actually them trending up a bit in the last few games. I'll take it tbh.
And yeah, the Canes probably will start scoring, but they're much more likely to have close game based on defensive play than blow outs. Their xGF% is 6th currently, based on high shot rates and solid scoring chance numbers. |

Thanks for the info. I was lucky enough as a younger person when I started taking in Road games in the late 70s or so ,To be at a flyer game in the old spectrum and I got to see Kate Smith sing God bless America live! Definitely one of my best five all-time hockey moments I got to experience in person! Even now, when I tell younger fans about it, and then show them the version on the Internet, it gives you the chills. Anyone It has even an ounce of patriotism and loyalty to the arm forces and no matter what age would understand. If that was Mr. Snyder’s wish, then so be it, I would hope that occasionally they still use it. |

Nice write up Justin
Hate the 3rd line its awfully small, and will be pushed off the puck all night. Scouting report just worry about Hartman in front of the net, that line will be blown up by the 30 minute mark - BetweenTheDots
Jonathan Toews gets pushed off the puck most nights so thats probably a concern with the first line as well.

Hino-Schmatlz-Hartman wasn't any bigger. ADB plays bigger than Hino. Hawks never have "big" lines. |

Oh it was definitely something that made Philly, well Philly. It seemed it was Ed saying screw you to the league offices for a while. And then their record when it was played probably made it stick around. Now with Comcast owning the team I think it's just something that can be in the lore of the team like the Bullies. |

Thoughts on a Rick Nash deadline acquisition?
If NYR retain 50% salary of course
