I am not entirely certain that Duschene is the best player in the deal. Clearly he is the most gifted offensive player. But, Turris is a very good defensive player and still kicked in 27 goals last year. - spatso
Turris was a solid piece. But for the long term, his game is has to be in question. Think years 1, 2, 3 of his contract is no problem at all. But when you get into the back half, and you have Karlsson at 11M, Stone will command 6m+ now... Chabot will look for $, there's going to be guys that want more.
I think Duchene will thrive - no matter where he goes. He knows he is UFA coming up but more so he wants to win. The Sens want to win as well and Brown, Chabot and White weren't draft this year. They've been developing well and I suspect at least 2 of them to be regulars and playing bigger roles by this year's playoffs |

Two weeks of a pristine Canal commute will having him begging to resign in Ottawa.
But seriously, maybe they think he will resign, it's not impossible.
Or perhaps they want to try and win now while Karlsson and Stone's contracts are reasonable.
Karlsson will cost a lot more than 6.5. - david22

I admittedly know nothing about them, but I guess it sounds like they got some solid guys.
I still have PTSD from the Pens' Jagr trade and never feel good about a prospect-loaded trade lol - Rinosaur
From the Avs perspective if you want to simplify it just imagine the trade roughly as Duchene for Hammond, 2 firsts, 2 seconds and 2 thirds. |

Dunno much about those prospects, but on pure totals, wow that’s a huge haul for Duchene |

Yeah and Turris is ~= Duchene - Feds91Stammer
Turris wasn't going to sign in Ottawa and Duchene is more dynamic and younger.
The Sens paid picks + bowers to make the upgrade. Time will tell if it's worth it. I believe keeping Chabot, White, and Brown is significant. I really wish that 1st round pick wasn't involved |

Ott 1st is not lottery protected. Ott misses playoffs, win lottery on both picks and col drafts 1st and 2nd overall. Sakic looks like a genius. |

??....
Colin White has played shown he can play in the playoffs - and a big game at that. Also Chabot just needs to adjust to a bigger game, he has the speed + hockey sense. I'm not saying either will be top 4 or top 6, but certainly playing in key situations, whether PK or just getting more ice time. With the way Boucher loves his vets, that's a bigger role |

*3 seconds (Kamanev, Girard, and NSH 2nd) - Feds91Stammer
I'd put Girard's value at a late 1st now, his stick has risen since being drafted. Kamamev I'd drop a bit, even though I still think he's a pretty decent prospect |

They got some other decent possible parts but I don't think they got any impact players. And they definitely gave up the best player in the deal.
It may turn out alright but as of now I don't see it. - Iggysbff
I guess the only other impact player I could see is Girard. Although it's pretty early to tell in general especially on someone like Bowers. |

Im not getting what Sens fans are really thinking here
They moved Turris, Bowers, Hammond, a 1st and 3rd, to get 1 more year in Duchene over Turris.
They moved a lot out for 1 more year of contract security? - DDM-Coga
Very early after the salary cap was implemented a study strongly suggested that in order to be successful in franchise building teams had to avoid long term deals except for a few of their very best players.
In the last few years we have seen way too many long term deals being given to players who are already past peak performance levels (age 26 for forwards). A 6 year deal for a 28 year old Turris makes no sense for a team that believes they are rich in prospects like the Sens believe.. |

Duchene has show he can play wing + being a left handed shot he can easily adapt to either stone, ryan, or white; Sens will likely be deeper on Rw
I highly doubt Duchene was brought in for 1 year and this is a move to get Karlsson some star power. Something tells me Hoffman might be the person that benefits most from this trade.. |
