a) thats not a good bar to set, ottawa is turrible

b) you're underselling miller, theodore and schmidt here.

c) and most importantly neither one of these runs is going to last. Vegas probably isn't going to have twice as many wins as losses by game 30 just as we're probably not going to be horror awful and 30th.

this is the same Ottawa team that has karlsson and made it to the ecf last season losing in seven games to the pens...they're also second in the division, ninth in the league...

what I was looking for is their coach, Gerard gallant...the same coach who guided the fla panthers to a 103-point season (3rd in the eastern conference) and was unceremoniously thrown to the curb who was eventually hired by vegas

I say we either trade Reinhart to Phoenix or somehow get Domi and Duclair here to complete that line. Worked for the world juniors a few years back.

Wasn’t Duclair on waivers a while back or in trouble with the coach. Then kane could be his role model.

On another note, sometimes a player is only good in a certain situation. Moulson and Okposo were big names until we got them. Likely, they were benefiting from playing with JT.

And I bet dollars to doughnuts that we have those scrubs on this team to entice JT here.

- Da_Cashman

trading reinhart would be more of a shakeup than trading kane...I think he's been coming along fine, albeit quite slow and still consider him to have plenty of upside...that said, if they did trade him to shake things up, I wouldn't be opposed, dependent upon the return

Its also been like 13 games, isn't that the whole point everyone is making with the sabres?

Yes its possible Gerard Gallant is the G.O.A.T It's also possible that the panthers were really good that year anchored by Ekblad playing like an Elite #1D and that as soon as he dipped so did they. just a thought.

or it could be analytics...

g.o.a.t. never entered into the equation...I value coaching very highly having seen both ends of the spectrum up close...

and the panthers are more than ekblad

i exaggerate for effect.

Ekblad was the example because hes the most noticeably different. That team in general was terrific. Not taking anything away from Gallant. He's obviously a good coach. But the impact of coaching alone isn't what takes a team from 100 plus points to whatever they are now.

Im not sure i even understand the point. you were one of the guys all over me about my pessimistic view because i didnt fully appreciate the change from bylsma to housley. it's been less than 20 games and now the coaching is the reason we're not in a playoff spot or close to one. Gallant's the difference there?

am of the opinion that coaching makes a huge difference and it's quite possible, although still to early to tell, that Housley may not be the answer either

just because Housley is floundering doesn't necessarily mean Bylsma had it right behind the bench

I dont think he's floundering save for the tennyson obsession. the correction would create less painful losses...but losses all the same.

Coach makes the personnel decisions and draws up the plays. Its not his fault they can't pass for poop. Or get their stick in the lanes/blown past by forwards. Or that bogosian has the groin of a 2$ whore.

that's where I disagree...their passing has improved considerably year over year...for the most part...

their goaltending this year has been awful and they've been caught cheating too many times...all but four players are having trouble scoring while the defense has too many bottom-pairing/ahl players in the mix...

and don't forget about the Griffith obsession which will probably reach the level of Bylsma/grant before he realizes that Griffith is a damn good ahl'er

Not really, their zone exits still aren't clean for the most part. lots of broken passes and the forwards have begun collapsing down low in a more defensive role.

Just my opinion of course. They're probably better at it this year, but still not good. Thats why they look slow despite having some decent skaters out there.

Griffith is already twice as good as grant. Hes okay for the fourth line. especially over jordan nolan

We are void of talent. Period. End of discussion.

We don’t have enough of it to compete, and I can’t wait for their 7-8 game run in January or February to hear the opposite

Disagree, there's a reason Eichel leads/is at the top of the league in terms of zone exits and entries. Yes, he's a phenomenal player, but it's also because no one can pass or take a pass. That's part of the reason Eichel doesn't have 20 assists already.

Pach, love your stuff man I do, but...

Coddling these players does no one any good. If they played a poor game, and if that can be alluded to without calling a player out, then it should be done.

Ain’t the way the real coaches coach, hold players accountable for gods sake, it is after all the NHL...no participation awards...don’t want to play tonight, good...grab the bench fo4 the next month. Call ‘em by name

Jack ECHL is at the top of both those categories because he's a superior puck handler with great speed and elusiveness

It's not just about talent. Arizona outclassed us in terms of passing. They need to bring someone in to work on passing. Take a week or 2 of practices where they spend 75% on passing and rushes, because it is atrocious.

Jack is seriously the only one on this team that can pass. ROR is hit and miss. Risto sometimes can but tends to either put too much or too little on it. The PP has been awful because of passing. They either wait too long, try and force a pass or just plain miss. It's a huge problem even with the best players on this team.
