mittelstadt , jack are the only safe in my book

Nuke it and start it with those 2

Dude. We're missing four D men and 2 forwards. Remember when they looked good the first game? That's because they had a mobile 4th line and balance coming from the D.

Reading anything into the game is a mistake. Yeah, blow up the core of Falk, fedun, Tennyson and Antipin.

Size, competitiveness, etc. The stuff he's known for. He's not my favorite goalie of all time or anything, but I do think he's highly skilled. Idk what he could have done on that second goal either with his whole team collapsing in on him.

Blaming him for tonight's loss is like blaming Miller for the ECF loss. At some point the loss of D men is too much to bear

Rewatch those 2 goals

Yeah, Tennyson sucks & should’ve cleared that tap in outta there...
but that was a super weak shot that Lehner should’ve controlled better
The puck should’ve never been in that spot to begin with

And he made a sh!tty play with the puck along the wall, and then didn’t get back & get set on the other one

As far as what u like about him...

One could argue his “competitiveness” hurts him, as he seems to get too worked up over goals & unravels
His size is great, but his body control is weak bc of it
That’s why he looks to be flopping around out of position & overplays the puck (bc he’s so big, he has trouble stopping his momentum from side to side)

I’m not a goalie expert,
so maybe I’m being too harsh on him?
But I just don’t see him as our franchise guy. And at this point, I’m about done with him as our starter

Regardless of mediocre defense,
He was terrible on those first 2 goals

Blowing up the core before it's finished kinda seems weird anyways.

Im hoping at some point he gets a long look at the back up spot this year just to see what they really have in him.
- Sabresfan-365

If it keeps going like this,
then there’s no reason not to call him up at some point

I don't necessarily disagree with you. But put lundqvist in with this D and people would be saying the same thing. If we get Risto, Bogo and bowl you back, and he still looks like garbage, I'll agree. Til then, it's pointless to evaluate

this is an obvious overreaction but im curious why mittelstadt is safe. Why does someone with mid first round pick USHL stats and 9 games of college hockey safe?

If they shop everyone and anyone for a top d-man and the only deal they can find involves moving mittelstadt we say no? We turn down a bonafide top pair guy for 9 college games and 0 nhl points?

- Sabresfan-365

Middlestadt is an absolute stud. He’s safe IMO

My positive spin to this is they look significantly worse without risto which is good cause there was a time where i was worried that may not be the case. Its a shame he got hurt just as his game was taking that next step.
- Sabresfan-365

They’ve had many periods like this with Ristolainen, including the last 10 minutes against AZ last game

Biron had a great breakdown of it. Gives Lehner “bad rebound” but says Tennyson put them in danger from the dump in with two really bad plays and McCabe screwed up too.

He had gotten better at getting the puck out and keeping time in the o-zone. not saying if he was here the game would be tied just that his absence is very noticeable.

He's been really good. A few goals that look bad, but are just the dumb system to let guys go to the net.

I see we're back to letting guys chop each other on the arm...

Most gifted player in the org. outside of Eichel.

Have you not seen the plays he’s been making?

Lundqvist plays those goals better 99.9% of the time

Lehner isn’t garbage,
he’s just not good enough to get us where we wanna be
I don’t think he leads this team to playoff success...
even with a better defense

It’s kinda fair for u to ask for judgement to be held off bc our defense is injured/blows...

But like I said in the case of the goal that Tennyson should’ve cleared...
that puck should’ve been controlled MUCH better & not been left there to begin with

Things like that & his lack of body control at times are what make me think he just isn’t that good of a goalie

He does have some good games, even some great ones...
but overall,
he’s too inconsistent & I haven’t seen improvement in his “flaws”

his offensive stuff 5v5 has finally gotten to what we all thought he was capable of too. I hope he keeps it up

Edit: probably change my tune by the end of WJ's

Well Biron is a goalie, so of course he’s gonna point out what others did wrong on the plays
And that’s all fair...
but it’s also fair (and accurate) to say Lehner was terrible on the first 2 goals

And I think we pretty much all agree that Tennyson has no place here...
can we freaking get Guhle up here?!

Well methinks we're gonna be watching Lehner for a while. You're not gonna find a better goalie on the free agent market.

I'm a broken record, but sort the D out and evaluate.

I hear ya
Just don’t think we see a ton of improvement unless we can get a defense comparable to the Preds, Ducks, etc

Not getting much help from the defense certainly amplifies Lehner’s mistakes,
I’ll give ya that for sure

No. Is that what I said?

I don’t think Risto looks any different. Just isn’t being a net protecter this year

The 2nd one the puck hit a rut and popped up a foot from him. That's just bad luck.

U talking the Tennyson no clear play?
Don’t u think Lehner could’ve directed that puck away from the net better?

Or was that the one where Lehner had the puck behind the net & then totally misplayed the puck, which DIRECTLY led to the goal?
