Didn't kane's speed shorthanded yesterday set up the goal? Kane also gives players on his line a little more space to work with his on ice toughness. Now kane is the problem?
- Boss34

Not even a little bit.

But not every good player makes those around him better. Kane is an incredibly selfish player. He gets assists only by accident. And carries the puck before he scores it. By and large he's a one man band out there. That's an extreme example.

Again, wrong, we tanked for McDavid. He wanted to get a head start and get as high a pick as possible in Reinhart's year. The prize always was and always will be McDavid.
- Wetbandit1

We had a 25% Chance of mcdavid 100% of mceichel. You act like it's a fact and I'm wrong. You went part of the brain trust? They wanted to garuntee one or the other

Just the fact that Toronto scores a ton of goals and the Sabres, well, don't means Marner has a fantastic chance of ending up with more points, especially if Sam is playing 14 minutes a night away from the only guys who generate any kind of offense.
- Wetbandit1

Marner is way way better then Sam i’m not even going to have this debate with people lol 😂

RhinoFan : clearly likes 23 , won't change his mind. How are you not disappointed? This is what you were hoping for? Met your expectations?
- Boss34

Same as most the other comments. We took him, he's here now. His draft position is a moot point that has been beaten to death. If he plays more like last night, I can accept that. Unlike some, most...well other folks...I think he still has more to give.

It's funny you mention McDavid. Because last I checked, Edmonton is hanging out in the bottom of the standings with us currently.
- HonkFortheGoose

I wonder what would've happened had we ended up 3rd in that draft. Certainly no ROR trade. We'd probably have ended up with Puljujarvi the next year and Edmonton would've gotten Matthews.

The tyrod comparison is response to jfitz. He has since back tracked on the tyrod bashing.

Somehow he's not a franchise guy ect. Even though he's playing well above expectations

IE: TYROD was a free agent signing at the most important position in sports. We didn't have to tank to get him. Thus MY expectations have been met.

Jfitz thinks 23 is doing just fine and is ok with him being a 35 point guy. That is below MY expectations especially for a #2 pick overall

- Boss34

The Bills need to draft a quarterback next year, period. Tyrod Taylor is probably good enough to be "the guy" for the next couple of years while the rookie develops, but they're not going to win a Super Bowl with him.

Can't compare the two. That's like comparing apples to oranges. They're not even remotely even the same style player.

That said, they've given up 1 more goal than we have this season. But they've gotten more scoring so that's why they're higher up in the standings.

Moral of the story, we need our guys to figure out how to get on the scoresheet more.

I don't think we have the depth yet.
- sbroads24

What did u think about the lines I proposed?

Girgensons-Eichel-Pominville
Pouliot-O’Reilly-Bailey
Kane-Reinhart-Okposo

I think those 3 lines should be able to score with regularity
The O’Reilly line probably worries me the most, but if things need to be juggled at some point then we can address it
For now,
I think it’ll work ok

why? because of his draft position?? If he was a 3 round pick we would all think he was doing well, if he was a 5th round pick we would all think we hit a home run in that spot.
- hehateme

But he wasn’t?

Is this a joke? If McDavid was a 40 point player, Edmonton should be happy because thats good for a 5th rounder?

Because, go figure, you need competent management and supporting/role players.

Something neither Edmonton nor Buffalo has right now.

God forbid a guy who's supposed to score goals shoot the puck.

This rhetoric is so stale. Selfish or one-dimensional? Kane is a sniper. Not a traditionally accurate sniper, but he's paid to, told to and supposed to shoot first ask questions later [in before racial joke].

I'd say that the majority of players overthink everything when all they need to do is throw it on net.

Especially these "we can't succeed at stretch passes but we can complete 50/50 passes on the power-play but we don't shoot until there's 5 seconds left in the power-play, a chance it misses and it flies around the boards and sends the penalty killer exiting the box on a breakaway that our loser goalie can't stop" types of mental prowess-encompassed man-advantages.

Oh my god, seriously. Evander Kane is selfish because he's not a play-maker now. Even though we saw a perfect give-and-go last night on that 2-on-0 breakaway. Even though he flipped that puck down ice last year in OT against Carolina and Jack scored that nifty 5-hole back-hand with .5 seconds left on the clock. Right, that selfish bastard

Excellent post. IF Housley fails, I'm pushing Fitz for coach.

This actually just seems like the logical conclusion. It's not being done, but looking at the way each player goes about their business...I think this could really turn our fortunes around. I mean hey, we aren't getting much out of the bottom 6...that would at least be a good start towards doing so I'd imagine. Well played sir.

Thanks
To be fair... idk if it would hold up for a length of time
But for now,
I think it’s worth doing
And if at some point it breaks down,
where Pouliot isn’t scoring or Jack needs Kane back on his wing, etc etc
Hopefully by then we have Baptiste, Nylander, etc who can come up & help out

There was an offer on the table of Faulk for Duchene. Sakic balked. He's getting great offers.

Those lines seem to be appropriate for our various skill sets. Jack can do it by himself, so give him Girgs to go fetch pucks out of the corners, give Kane to Reinhart as a means to up his production. Always liked Bailey with RoR, they seem to have good chemistry, Pouliot's game is growing with him as well. Top to bottom the best lineup prop. I've seen.

Mittelstadt, baptiste, bailey and nylander should be ready either next year or shortly thereafter. If all we lose is Kane, our Top9 could actually look decent if spread out like this across 3 lines.

Dude, holy poop. I've been on the pay Kane pretty much since he got here. I was illustrating that not every good player makes those around him better. And yes he's a selfish player, he rarely, if ever passes. Don't get it twisted that I'm saying that's a bad thing, just selfish.

He made a Hail Mary play last year and a pass last night. That hardly makes him a selfless player. He's paid to put the biscuit in the basket. And he does that well. Selfish, in this context is not a bad thing.

Your point was that there weren't good offers for Duchene, so what could we possibly expect to get for Sam? There are good offers, Sakic won't trade him for anything less than a massive overpayment, which is his prerogative.
