Figured that was the same fine Hank got for spraying Crosby

- mdw7413

I believe that $5,000 is the maximum fine allowed under the CBA, for certain violations. Might be for violations that do not result in injury, or something like that.

$5,000 represents ~0.00058% of Stamkos' salary (well, cap hit anyway). That would be the equivalent of a $29 fine for someone making $50k/year.

What a punishment. Probably has that as pocket change.

Reason 1,001 why the NHL is dumb. Hayes and Stamkos fined the same amount for squirting water as Killorn jabbed Hayes in the chest with his stick. Good stuff NHL.

Totally agree. The two infractions are nowhere near the same level but see Chiefs response.

I’d like to walk down the street and spray a few people in the face with a water bottle for .00058% of my salary.

I knew 5,000 bucks was the max. But it's dumb. Like common sense should apply but, nope not in MY NHL baby.

Stamkos' actual salary (not cap hit) is $9.5M this season. He makes ~$38,618 per period, which is ~$1,930.90 per minute. He's basically being docked approximately two and a half minutes of pay, which includes time spent sitting on the bench between shifts.

I have to tell you, I forgot everything about math, except how to calculate damages. I look at my kids 8th grade math, and am totally baffled.

Yeah I probably forgot a lot of stuff too. Those numbers were pretty simple though. Salary divided by 82 games --> divided by 3 periods --> divided by 20min per period

No, I can do that ... at least I think.

But, if I took the math section of the SAT right now, I would probably get a 300. Lol

And you are much younger than I am, so it wasn't like 500 years ago for you.

Yeah I know. As it turned out, 95% of everything math-related that we learned was entirely useless.

For me, it totally has been. Maybe it had some overall impact on my intellectual growth but I have no idea.

But, if you are going to be an engineer or something, I guess it's important.

Yeah I mean everything definitely has a practical application somewhere, but for the overwhelming majority of the population learning standard deviation and bell curves is completely irrelevant. But yeah, I guess the intellectual growth factor of learning some hard stuff is an underlying reason for a lot of it.
