You guys ragging on Hyman do realize that he has more goals and as many points as Nylander right?

He, and the rest of the top line are not a problem here. Let's take a look at the Bozaks and JVRs of this team who are continually doing defensive fly boys instead of backchecking, or taking the body at all.

The D hasn't been great, Freddie has been sub par, but the real problem right now is the forwards who aren't playing a strong defensive game.

The Hyman hate here is hilarious (multiple points for alliteration).

He's been the least of the Leafs problems -- he's on track for 20+ goals. Has he missed some glorious chances? Yeah, sure -- but I think those chances are inflated by confirmation bias by a lot of detractors here: you guys notice when he misses more than you notice when other players are missing. Heck, he hit the cross-bar the other day on a pretty neat move -- should we be calling into question his "stone hands" over a tough break like that?

People on here questioning whether he's really a "first line" player, guess what: the Hyman-Matthews-Nylander line has been ridiculously great this year and has dominated possession. You think Matthews-Nylander are the only reason for this? Hyman is a relentless digger who opens the ice for the rest of the line. This line doesn't need more puck dangling or goal scoring talent: they need a gritty pest who the opposition has to contend with.

The only possible person on this team that I could see being a better fit is perhaps Connor Brown. But, frankly, I'd rather see him flanking soft skilled players like JVR and/or Marner.

So can we (frank)ing give the Hyman criticism a rest and concentrate on more pressing problems with the Leafs? The weak goaltending? The sub-par d-corps? The soft-as-(frank) Bozak line?
