LOL right. The guy who led the team in points in the playoffs is declining. (frank) off with that moronic poop. Hahahahahaha Malkin is a top 5 center in the league you dummy.
- j.boyd919

He is declining in the sense that he isnt the all world player every night that he was in say the 2009 playoff run. but its understandable. guy is 31 now. yes the effort over the course of an 82 game season does have lapses. durability will always be an issue just like most players approaching their mid thirties. but the dude still can take over shifts and just consistently puts points on the board. fact is, there arent many PPG players in the league anymore and he is still in that elite crust who does it.

it may get shaky in the last year or two of the deal, but for now, ill gladly still take him at the cap hit. hes an all time favorite for me.

At the game tonight. The games against the Jets are usually pretty brutal physically. I was surprised that they weren't throwing their bodies around like usual.

Malkin had one or two bad shifts but played a decent game. And, Sheahan is a good player. He's always in the right place positionally. Really liked what I saw in him away from the puck.

Also, as soon as I saw that it was Laine chasing Kessel down I thought that he'd be able to disrupt the overtime winner in some way....Phil hasn't lost a step. THAT was impressive.

Easy there tough guy. Former season ticket holder who was following the Pens when you were still in short pants.

Malkin is declining rapidly. Either he can't do it consistently, or can't be bothered to. My reference was to his drop off that started years ago. Whichever way you want to see it through your rose colored glasses, he is not worth the cap hit.

For the 9.3 the Pens could even out the lines much better.

I love that some Pens fans expectations are so high that a guy who has averaged over a point per game over the last 2 seasons (both in regular season and postseason, with both seasons ending in championships) is "declining"

The Pens are off to a FAR better start than I would have imagined. They haven't played their best hockey but are still winning games. I could care less what Malkin and Crosby's stats look like, staying healthy and fresh is more important than going all out to pad their stats.

Shipshayev is interesting to think about but I don't think it works. People undervalue what Hagelin brings to the table in tightly contested playoff games. He might not put up a ton of points but you can count on him to pressure and open up space for teammates.

They could try to do Sheehan and a pick for Ship with $2m retained but I'm still not sold on that either. Its interesting that the Pens are in a situation where they really don't have any dead weight in terms of salary space that they could ship off in a deal for relief. Huntwick maybe if one of their young D can prove themselves.

This is a bit much.

I understand its your opinion and you're entitled to it...but he just bested the playoff scoring race and is a point per game so far this season...

Malkin is like 6th in the NHL in P/60 over the last 4 seasons among forwards playing 3000+ min (or 250+ GP). He would be 7th when you throw McDavid in, but he's only got 2 seasons under his belt. And he's 3rd among centers in that span as well, behind Sid and Getzlaf. Primary p/60, he is 3rd among C behind Stamkos and Seguin (Sid is tied with Malkin), and 4th overall in that span. Sooo... yeah, that "opinion" of Geno "declining rapidly" is dead wrong, because you have no evidence to back it up.

It should but it probably won't lol eye test bro. Geno is still a top 5 center in the NHL, he may not be no. 2 behind Sid, but he absolutely is still top 5. Other than McDavid and Sid, I'm not sure I can think of another Center to replace him with and think you're getting an improvement?

Anyone who thinks the Pens need to sell off one of their top players to get deeper hasn't been paying much attention to the last 2 years.

It's like saying... "Man, these last like 4 or 5 winters have been some of the coldest ones in a LONG time in Pittsburgh." Then someone goes to the weather records for the last 4 or 5 years and the records actually say it has been significantly warmer the last 4 or 5 years, and also resulted in less snow, and shorter winters... "Yeah, but I've lived here for 20 years, and I KNOW the last 4 or 5 winters have been some of the coldest." No... actually data says it's been significantly warmer, temperature wise all around.

Well we had centers the last two years and now we don't have that depth at center. The last two years has been wingers coming up which we still have a few that we can afford to move a hags if needed. Archibald could fill his void if needed I think. But we have ZAR and too

McDavid for sure. Matthews is a tough call. As of right now he's for 3 more points than Geno and 5 more goals.. I'd bet a healthy Geno surpasses him in points, but probably not goals by the end of the year. But Matthews is really (frank)in good.

I'm also taking age into consideration here as well obviously we'd have Matthews for a longer time. Sorry didn't add that before.
