Would you trade Simmonds for a package similar to the one we received for Carter or Richards?
- JFlyers00

Yes, I would trade current-day Wayne Simmonds for a younger Wayne Simmonds and Brayden Schenn.

Yes, and as YJ pointed out, I was clearly the only one who misinterpreted him.

and concussions do suck.

If the Flyers do ever win the cup everyone on this site needs to meet at the parade. even the people I want to smack upside the head on a daily basis. All would be forgiven

Saying they suck is an overreaction. Look at who they've played.
2 vs NSH (last year's West Conf Champ)
2 vs ANA (last year's West Conf Runner Up)
1 vs LA (Heavy style team with a good goalie) (on road)
1 vs SJ (Playoff team) (on road)
1 vs EDM (Playoff team)
1 vs WSH (ummmm yeah we know them)
1 vs FLA (only team here that really isn't top competition)

23 of 33 against the west to start is crazy

With AMac out Sam will be up sometime just don't expect it right away mainly due to Myers and Brennan being out for Lehigh.

with parity all games are tough per se but man, they really do have a tough early schedule. add these two games in Ottawa and Toronto and Chicago and St Louis 4 out of the next 5 games. that is brutal.

I have had a very mild one. Head hurt like hell and I was basically confined to bed for 3 days without lights or anything, just allowed downstairs to eat and then back to sleep. That's hard to do when your 2-year-old has just discovered how fun it is to jump. Sounded like (frank)ing bombs going off. So yeah, they're not fun.

If the Flyers do win the Cup, I will be at the parade. I missed the Phillies in 2008 because my best friend's dad's funeral was the morning of at 10AM, and the lines for trains were out the door by the time I got to the station. But short of my immediate family dying, I will be there. Heck, even if it was my immediate family, I think the deceased would want me to be able to go, so would be cool with decomposing one extra day.

I'd like to see someone not named Brandon Manning in vs. Toronto. Not saying it has to be Morin, but even Morin covers more ground with his reach than Manning, and you need either size or reach to deal with Toronto's speed. Dude will get turnstiled all night long.

If anyone on the defense knows how to defend against fast players it is Brandon Manning

Is the key working hard or getting punched in the face? Because he excels at those facets of the game.

Sure, but you wouldn't get that kind of return for him. Carter and Richards were on long term deals that were viewed as great value. Obviously, only Carter's contract was good in reality, but that's what made them so valuable in 2011.
- Feanor

Yeah, I'm trying to get a grip on what everyone values him at here.

I think the time to move him for the most value would have been this past summer. A team like Edmonton may have been willing to pay that price in an attempt to go all out to win before the McDavid extension kicks in.

Its just an interesting comparison cause the Carter and Richards trades broke a lot of fans' hearts at the time, but they have both been monster wins long term.

I've had about 3 concussions, but only had one that was limiting. I was playing rugby and tried to tackle a guy, but he turned his body very quickly and my face jammed into his hip.

I was out for about a month, I couldn't do anything active - run, lift, bike etc. I couldn't got see a movie in a theater without getting a headache for about 6 months.

Looking back, if you had to rate the players we got in the 2 deals from most coveted to least, I think they'd look like this:

Schenn ("best player not in the NHL")
#8 overall (Should taken Hamilton, right folks?)
Voracek/Simmonds - 2 guys who were good, young complimentary players but hadn't been able to break through.

Looking at it now, or right before the Schenn trade, you'd flip those around.

Sorry meant my concussion, not the Flyers. Now I see why two of you thought I said the Flyers suck. No I think they look pretty good so far.

I just had the one. It wasn't vert severe, but after 3 days of laying in bed in a room with no lights, I was stir crazy. I can't imagine a month of low key activity.

When a concussion gets hit in the head, it gets a Chuck Norris.

Schenn was doomed to fail based on that label. It was unfair, he was pinned with second line center potential who could play two ways at the time of his draft. It wasn't until his overage WJC showing where he was labelled with these unreal expectations of being a top line center.

Just reading about what Pronger went through for years following his last one was terrifying. Broken bones and torn muscles are fun compared to that.

I gotta say it's been fascinating witnessing the general fan dynamic (not just on here) after a heavy loss that can't be blamed in any way on Couturier or MacDonald.
