It doesn't matter. What players do in the KHL or other European leagues doesn't just translate to the NHL that easily. It's a completely different game.
Now, I'm not saying HE CAN'T do it, but he's done nothing yet to show he can. Does Plotnikov ring a bell? Damien Bruenner?
It's one thing for a player to be drafted as a rookie and have time to ease in and adjust playing in the AHL or simply be given time at the NHL level, but more times than most these players who try and just come over to make the jump fail.
Panarin has been one of the few exceptions. - Rinosaur
The fact you are going to compare him to Plotnikov or Brunner(wasn't even a KHLer) shows your ignorance. |

I'm really not sure what's so complicated here. If you think these guys can just come over and be the same player they were over there then I don't know what to tell you. It's not just true. - Rinosaur
To think skill doesn't translate to a smaller ice surface is pure ignorance. |

Don't you know no one here ever suggested playing him LW?...even though it was kinda mentioned and questioned.
- NJPensfan
Hagelin and a 3rd for Shipachyov
Sheary - Crosby - Sprong
Rust - Malkin - Kessel
Guentzel - Shipachyov - Hornqvist
McKegg - Sheahan - Kuhnhackl
This was the post that was advocating for Sprong. |

Sorry, not trying to be a a pain, but I'm not following...

Rust-Geno-Kessel
Guentzel-Ship-Hornqvist
???-McKegg-Kuhnhackl
So are you saying to put Sprong as LW next to Sid, or move Sheary to Sid's LW? - Rinosaur
Sheary is capable of playing LW, and is listed as such on the Pens website, hockereference, Yahoo, etc. |

The fact you think any European player can just come over and be effective shows how little you know about hockey and why you really shouldn't be discussing it with anyone.
Again, it's one thing for a younger player, but for players who have been playing overseas well into their 20's and beyond? You're out of your element, Donnie. |

Damien Brunner had two productive seasons of 26 points in 44 games and 25 points in 60 games, while topping out at 60 in a Swiss league where the skill isn't as high as the KHL. |

Come on man, as much as you don't like, you know I'm right about this. Being good in the KHL doesn't mean you'll be good in the NHL when you're talking about players who have been career KHLers. |

Not really sure why you think the game of hockey is that different in the NHL. The premise is always to score more goals than the other team. It's hockey, pretty much anywhere around the world. |

I'm honestly finished with you. You can't have a normal conversation and just look to bully people who you disagree with. There's a reason you regularly get suspended from here.

It's really not though. The smaller rink has created a very different game here. It's simply played different. You don't have the room or time to play the same type of game. |

I've actually been trying to google it just to see if there is a list of "failed KHL players" and I can't even find a lit or anything. I know he said Plotnikov, but dude never produced more than 40 points in the KHL, so a lot of people had misguided expectations for him in the NHL. He was never going to put up 40+ points here, and anyone who knew anything about hockey outside the NHL should have known that. |

They still produced/well at the KHL level, so they should have been able to make something of themselves. |
