Why respond like that? He posted numbers and documented his opinion. I'm assuming he got that from somewhere. Why not step up and offer a rebuttal with an actual response? |

Yes, because they had so many better options, such as AHL defensive stalwart TJ Brennan and injury-riddled Mark Alt.
Can you please tell me again why Manning played opening night over both Sanheim and Morin while both were with the team? Can't be because they felt safer with veteran Manning, they must have felt he was the far superior player to those 2 rookie losers.
FFS dude. - jmatchett383
I think that Manning getting a spot for opening night and the home opener was some of Hak's college tendencies leaking into the NHL. Like Manning is a senior due to graduate, and it was his last chance for an opener and home-opener. They probably feel safer with him too though |

There were plenty of veteran dmen available as free agents if the team wanted to be safe.
Manning getting in a few games ahead of Sanheim at the start of the season was totally overblown. - Feanor
Bill talked about earlier that the flyers had a hard time having veterans wanting to come here cause our pipeline scared them and they knew any starting role would be short lived. |

Yes must be awesome to have every moment in your life dictated for you. What you eat, what you do with your free time not to mention being away from you family for half a year. Also what they get is much lower than what we see. Once you account for their escrow, income tax, agent fees and cost of livving fees they lose a substantial chunk of money
For example a player making 1 mill would pay 18% to the NHL in Escrow(180,000)
Next comes income tax. Having paid escrow, the player is now taxed at a rate of around 50 per cent on $820,000, depending on where the player lives in Canada. A player in Montreal, Toronto or Ottawa pays the government $410,000.
Players pay their agents between three and six per cent depending on the amount of services provided by the agent. The agent’s fee is calculated after escrow is paid. If a player pays his agent four per cent of $850,000 (after escrow) it would be $34,000.
players will spend around $70,000 a year for hockey-related expenses – things such as agent fees, personal trainer, disability insurance, trainer tips, supplements, workout equipment, etc.
It is estimated players need to budget $50,000 for rent and utilities assuming one can get a 10-month lease. A young player who takes on a roommate to split costs, it could be less than $50,000. If you are an older guy renting a house in New York or California it will be closer to $100,000
.
I know guys who are renting in Chicago or New York for $15,000 a month
For basic living expenses (food, clothing etc.) $3,000 a month and budgets another $3,000 a month for miscellaneous expenses (entertainment, gifts etc.). That works out to a combined $72,000. Also $25,000 a year for car expenses which includes monthly payments and insurance.
At the end of the day the player is left with a net savings of around $240,000.
So is $240,000 a year worth having to spend a lot of your time working out, having to eat based on your job, all the traveling and not being able to sleep in your own bed and putting your body on the line every night and possibly your permanent health? - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Can you please provide links to show where you got these numbers and percentages?
And sure, even if AMac's take home is still a bit over $1M per year, I'll gladly switch jobs with him right now. |

Any reports that the Flyers have ever had cap issues is ridiculous.
The Upshall + pick for Dan Carcillo was purely a hockey move.
Simon Gagne for Matt Waker was purely a hockey move.
Sending down Couturier and Schenn to start the season - you guessed it, purely a hockey move.
No cap issues.
Ever. - jmatchett383

okay, why? - YuenglingJagr
Because Ghost has already played the right side at a high level in the NHL. Sanheim played the right side in the AHL, but always looked better offensively on his strong side, and he's still getting to grips with playing defense in the NHL. |

Or because they didn't feel comfortable (i.e. safe) having 3 rookies in the lineup to go along with a second year 20-year-old and a third year 24-year-old player.
No, they just thought Manning was better than both and felt that they didn't need any veteran UFAs given their defensive makeup. |

Clearly, they think Sanheim is better than Manning because Sanheim has played the majority of the games so far. |

With the way Gostisbehere is playing, no reason to mess with him in any way. I'd leave that pairing intact. |

I understand we think it is probably a Hakstol preference, but I think way too much is being made of having two rookies play together on the third pair. Especially when they are so familiar with each other AS A PAIR.
Its not like they are two greenhorns coming right out of juniors. |

No, it's not a waste of space. He obviously copied that from somewhere, and I think feeling sorry for any of these players and their financial situation is not warranted. When someone responds the way that you did, with zero substance, that's usually the guy who is full of you know what. |

So who is playing with Provorov? Hakstol has had two years to put him with Gudas and hasn't done so yet. |

My point was that since they already have 4 young guys in the lineup (Ghost, Provorov, Sanheim, Hagg), they might not feel comfortable (or "safe") adding a 5th in Morin.
It was also tongue-in-cheek and not meant to be taken so seriously, but thank you for the evaluation. |

But I am making enough of having Manning play with Provorov and breaking up the Hagg/Ghost combo. Both of which i would prefer not to happen. |

If i was a player i would quit versus having to live through all of the torture you just described.

Not really the best source there.
50k for rent + utilities is crazy even for Manhattan.
This is specific to Canada tax rates (They're higher than USA)
Article is probably accurate for escrow and agent fee calculations. |

Since Ghost is playing so well he would be the perfect mentor for Morin.
If Provorov-Hagg does well together as the top pairing, they might make MacDonald expendable to Hextall. |

If I was AMac, having to play a game for just over $1M per year take-home, not having to pay for lodgings/meals while I'm traveling around the continent (with not too much free time), I might just off myself.
Not saying it's good that the guy's injured, but these guys aren't exactly starving, either, and they see their families just as much or more than a guy who's a traveling salesman 12 months a year. |
