You think Bonino made little passes in tight better than guys like Malkin and Lemieux, as well as that Gretzky guy? I will disagree. - jmatchett383
Keep in mind, there are plenty of Penguins fans today who have never seen Lemieux or Gretzky play. |

That is true. However. http://www.youtube.com is still a working site.
Bonino was a great supplementary player on the Penguins and I felt that his loss would be felt more than most expected. But to say he's on of the best 2 passers on short in-tight spaces in the league over even the past few years seems a bit outlandish to me.

The more and more I think about it, if Philly is out of the running come the deadline, the Pens #1 target should be Filppula. Yes, they'd have to pull off another Streit-like move to get him here since they'd be dealing with Philly, but I can't think of a better solution.
Personally, I just don't think a guy like Galchenyuk or Duchene are in the cards. That doesn't mean other high-profile guys won't become available, but Filppula has not slowed down and brings a bit of everything. He's the perfect replacement for Bonino, maybe even a slight upgrade.
When the season is over, the Pens can re-group and take a look at the UFA pool since there are some interesting names that will be out there: Bozak, Thornton, Plekanec or even Stastny(but he will probably get way overpaid).
The Pens just don't have any serious contenders for 3C in their system and will have to keep buying until they do. If they're buying, I don't care if they're young or not, only if they're still playing at the right level.
So yeah... Filppula for Pens' 3C! - Rinosaur

I don't think the Flyers will be out of contention come the TDL. Maybe not locked into a spot, but also not so far out that they'll be selling their 3C either. |

Its amazing how revisionist history works....The legend of Nick Bonino grows.
People forget how he was almost invisible of long stretches of the regular season, especially his first year here. What he did do was excel in the playoffs and there is no denying that. He also was able to slide in and be a passable short term fill in at 2C when side and Geno have been out. None of the guys they have at the moment can do that, but he certainly wasn't more than advertised when he got here, which was a solid 3C. |

Victoro, don't be mad at me but I'd prefer to have Daley back than signing Hunwick.
I'm probably the only guy who liked Daley here. - Barnaby36
So far I like Daley better. Hunwick isn't really a RD and I think they'll need to make a small pickup at the deadline (unless someone like Bengtsson grabs a spot). Then Hunwick will slide over to Cole's spot next year.
But really I don't like either contract. |

Or maybe it's just that watching McKegg and Rowney has made people appreciate Bonino more. |

It's way too soon to make judgment. I give Daley all the credit in the world for what he brought to this team when he was first acquired. However, last year I think his play dropped off a bit. I think it was the smart thing to do to let someone else over-pay him.
We have to give Hunwick some time to develop chemistry with his new team. I'm still optimistic he will be a fit. |

Well, we can't all have ECHL-caliber backups.
But really, I see the Flyers somewhere +/- 4 points from a wildcard spot at the TDL. |

So far I just don't think he's as comfortable on the right side and that's the role he was brought in to play. Gets a little more dicey when he has to move into the top 4 with the Letang injury we know is coming. Think he's fine on the left side, that just wasn't the need. |

If you talk winning the trade, look at what Sutter is doing for the Nucks to what Boner used to do. Pretty sure they will say Sutter has & is much better for them the same as we all think Boner was a lot better than Sutter. Just so happens that Boner won a cup or 2 & Sutter is still trying to get them to the round 1 of the playoffs. - Aussiepenguin
Brandon Sutter is so bad he’s the Canuck’s 4C, and it’s not like the Nucks have a ton of great centers. And he’s being paid 4.4 mil to play 4C. Whatever the opposite of winning a trade is, giving up literally anything for a 4th liner who’s being paid top 6 money is it. |

Great news, wonder who gets the call. Jarry the high end prospect or DeSmith who is playing like one. |

I wouldn’t mind Daley as a bottom pairing partner for Cole. The problem with having Daley on the team was that Sullivan deployed him super poorly and insteaded to keep the Maatta-Daley pairing together, which was a dumpster fire. I don’t trust Sully to use Daley right. |

You said you've never seen anybody, aside from Crosby, who could make passes like that. I beg to differ.
Bonino was an integral part of the last 2 SC teams. He was a very good 3C who was good with and without the puck, and who was able to capitalize when opportunities were presented. That's where it ends, and I'm a big fan of his. |
