The best example is either luck... every time the results belie the advanced stats, it is luck.

OR... it is sample size.

With that in mind, just remember the following equations when evaluating the advanced stats.

Appropriate Sample Size = Sample Size where Advanced Stats fail + 1

Sens are a very underrated team.

I think this is because of all the comedy around their franchise and the fact that everyone (except Spaz-Doops) knows that last year's playoff run was largely because of injuries to their opponents and a lot of puck luck on their part.

But, they are a good team. When everything is clicking, they can beat anyone in the league. They have the best Dman in the league, a goalie who can stone teams at times and a couple very good forwards

They don't look to be deep enough at either forward or defense to be a real contender over the long haul and they are very much in "win now" mode.

I agree they are underrated - and I would agree that they are really not equipped to beat top teams. Turris will want at least $6 to $7 million over term and that will put the squeeze on Eugene to cough up $10 million or more a year for Karlsson after next year. In my opinion, bias aside, they are in deep sh!t.

I think you do have to read into them a bit. But the way people rely on advanced stats as the only way of judging players/teams is crazy

I don't take so Marchand's tweet as making fun of the Matthews hype, it seems more like giving props to the kid. Or maybe a little bit of both. At any rate, hopefully it gives the Leafs extra motivation to mangle the Bruins when they play them.

I meant to say Ovechkin not Malkin. What does Marchand expect, Matthews is a marquee draw in the biggest market, of course there's gonna be a lot of coverage.
