I might never go back to another hockey game at the Garden. Those ticket prices are wacky.

The garden also sucks.

I don't understand the hatred.
And don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say he's Bowman or anything. But, Ruff has 736 wins behind the bench, went to the Cup finals (which Buffalo got hosed in) and won a Jack Adams.
He played in the league for years. It's not like he doesn't know what it takes to win in the NHL.
Yes, the game has changed. But, we're talking about someone who had the skill and hockey IQ to play 700 games and has never stepped away from the league for an extended period through all those changes.
How is he not qualified? As was said earlier, ALL NHL coaches outlive their welcome. We need someone with passion and fire right now, because none of our players have it.

It's not hatred at all, I have absolutely nothing against the guy as a coach. I just think the game has evolved past his coaching abilities. How long did he keep talentless garbage like Patrick Kaleta in the lineup in Buffalo? I'm not trying to insult the guy or holding some sort of grudge, but I just think that he's an older-school-type of coach and the game has moved in a completely different direction.

Heard something like that or read it somewhere. Real easy to get screwed even if you think you got tickets.
- mdw7413

This is correct. When I email a ticket to someone the hard copy I am left with is no longer valid. I throw mine out immediately but that is not to say some dbag won't try to resell the ticket on the streets.

I think even scalpers are weary of purchasing tickets and then trying to resell them.

Probably accurate, but then you look at guy like Ken Hitchcock who keeps getting job after job.

Well some guys can certainly adapt, I just don't think Ruff's recent track record is anything overly-impressive. Granted, that's not wholly his fault...he can only play with what he's given, but just saying I think younger, newer-thinking coaches are the order of the day now.

Interesting.

Not that I would but gives me another reason to never buy off a scalper.

I get your point, but a lot of people comment as if he doesn't know and see the game at a higher level than us. And that he hasn't been at ground zero watching all these skilled, young players come up and grow right in front of his eyes.
I feel like I know the game of hockey quite well. I have a higher IQ than a skill set, even when I'm playing beer league hockey, I know what the right play is, I just can't always (usually) make it happen. And since I've started come to this site, I realize that I understand the game more than A LOT of people. But, I can also realize that I don't know poop compared to these people who have made the game their life.
Who's to say he can't adapt?

That could also backfire. Who was the Marlies coach everyone was sucking his knob? Young guy, think he coached for a little but wasn't good at all.

When I was like 8 or 9 my older Brother took me to a game at MSG, might have been my first time there and he bought tickets from scalpers and back then they were all over the place, he opened up the envelope and there were fake tickets so he chased them down 33rd and left me standing there by myself

This should be the first paragraph of your autobiography..... it explains so much about you and the Rangers.

Last year, my wife bailed on me for a game (not like chief's, daughter was sick) so I ended up going down alone. Tried to sell my one ticket and had a nice convo with the scalper. Said he was apprehensive about buying my ticket because cause he could verify it was still valid. He ended up buying it from me for $20 and selling it to a guy for $30.

If they keep him they'll have to sign him until he's probably 37 or 38 at around $7M/year AAV. That's not a good idea.
- eichiefs9

Didn't Shatty at age 28 just accept $6.5M, for only a 4 years term, to play for his local rooting interest while being raised in New Rochelle, N.Y.? McDonagh was not raised in NY, but didn't he also agree even earlier with the Rangers at a "salary friendly" deal of $4.7M only, for also about 1/2 the length of a 7 or 8 years term AT THE HEIGHT of his career? So what makes one think that he automatically would want no less than a 7 years term from any team at a fair increase?
No one except possibly for McDonagh at age 28 has a hint at this point for who he may want to sign his next contract with, and at what amount and term length. If you want to perceive as to who, based on him being Ryan McDonagh, his first two choices would likely be the Rangers and his parent's home state's, Minnesota Wild. In addition, as with other Sather signed players, he has a Modified No Trade Clause. So he may not want to leave the Rangers after next season at all, nor want much greater for as longer a term than some may think he does for both.

Shattenkirk left a lot of term/money on the table to sign with his hometown team that he loved growing up. Anything is possible, but I have a very tough time believing that he is going to leave money/term on the table when it comes time to negotiate a new contract. His hometown team may be willing to pony up the kind of contract he is looking for, however. If he comes out and signs a 4 year deal I will most certainly be the first one to admit I was wrong, but I just don't see that happening. What Shattenkirk did was the exception, not the rule. Most highly-sought-after UFA's don't leave 3-4 years of term on the negotiating table.

Big difference. He was an RFA and took guaranteed money for term instead of going through bridge deals, ect.

Of course, and again I am not trying to bash the guy here, he absolutely knows more than you or I about the game of hockey. I'm just saying that he's not getting younger and the game has changed a lot in recent years and is only continuing to change. That's all. He'd be a fine choice of coach for any team, but I am of the opinion that the game may be changing faster than he can...that's all.

So as I spend every waking moment shaking my head about this team and season I'm sold on selling off Nash, Grabner etc and if we get the #1 pick drafting Dahlin and trading Mac, would open up cap space and save us from giving 30 year old Mac 7 years at $7 plus

I think its a good plan if the play continues the same. You know me and I do really like Nash and also would've liked him signed for cheap for another 2 years, but if they are out of it at the deadline, time to start preparing for next year.
