If they don't win two of next three games with the one loss coming in ot, bye bye AV. I won't be sad to see him go. He ruined this team. |

Skjei, Staal, Andersson and 1st for Duchene. Chytil and and Conditional 2nd in 2019 for Thornton. Stanley Cup here we come. WOOOOOO! |

its sad to say, but it looks like most of this team is fixed for the foreseable future. top 4 Dmen signed up for the next few years. Smith, Staal, Shatty - all signed for the next 4 years. Its "compete" for the next few years and then rebuild once Hank retires. |

Don't hold on to Hank too long. The Devils held on to Marty for too long. It's hard to say goodbye to a legend but it is a breath of fresh air when they are gone. Hank's contract is a tough one now and into the future... |

I see no way in the world they beat Nashville. Forsberg-Johansen-Avridssen is arguably the best line in hockey right now according to advanced metrics. Then you have San Jose and Arizona, both as of right now 50/50 games. |

Just me, but a guy who went to the SCF, ECF ect in 4 years was a pretty damn good coach.
Like PeteV says, coaches usually have a shelf life, very few stay with a team long term. This is probably the end of AV's shelf life. |

Mike Babcock and Joel Quennville are the only two that come to mind. |

When McD came on board, I felt he had the potential to be another Leetch. Remembering back, Leetch was a lot like MCD, very good, but not quite there. Them enter Messier, and he brought Leetch to the next level. There is no such hope for McD. The Rangers are a team of good players by in large, with no outstanding leadership or superior talent above the rest.
It’s time. Trade Nash, ask Lundqvist to at least think about waving his NMC, unfortunately, they will need to pick up a significant portion of Hank’s contract but it’s time. |

McDonagh played the vast majority of his career with one defensive partner. That partner is now gone. As much as it may seem that these things don't matter, there is always an adjustment period when a player you have played alongside for years is no longer there. It takes time to adjust.
I am certainly not saying that is the entirety of his problems right now, but I think its definitely a part of it. - Pete V
I agree Pete, and also feel that A.V.'s juggling of d'man partners with McDonagh is the main reason for his struggles, along with possibly the "C" on his jersey being part, similar to when Leetch became Captain back then, with it affecting him as well.
I replied to that member's question on McD, as to that member's subject matter of thinking that he "may be tired". In that case, I have noticed where he at times doesn't appear to be getting a good jump in transition off his reads of the action, and hoped it wasn't due to some aggravation of that foot injury that ended his postseason a few years back. |

Watching last night I swear AV just gave up and went to the shinny system of "next up, next on for the pairings and forward lines. |

thats the thing tho, anyone still defending AV.. all they can come up with is that he took a team (that he inherited) to a cup final 4 years ago and an ECF after that. the team has regressed his whole time here if were being honest with ourselves |

That's true. But, it's also true that that leadership core that made that team got older and less effective. That group didn't win the Ultimate prize, but they were always a better whole than the sum of their parts. Groups like that don't come around all the time.

So basically AV gets no credit?
Come on mrn, you're smarter than that. I get you can't stand the dude but you have to give him credit where its due.
I enjoyed the last 4 years under AV much more than the Torts, 5 guys lay in front of the goalie and rarely did we play offense.
I also think AV's time is probably up, but it doesn't mean I can't say he did some good things while here. |
