I'd love that, but if the Rangers decide to rebuild(The right way), why would Tavares want to sign here? It'd be like leaving the Islanders to join the Islanders east, doesn't make sense for him. |

Maybe, and it's only a maybe. Winnipeg needs a goalie. They can groom Hellybuck a little. But let's be real, 99.7% sure Lundqvist isn't waiving to play in Winnipeg - tomburton99
No, I can't see Lundqvist being content to live in Winnipeg. Have you ever been there? I have, and New York City it is not!!
With all of his off-ice interests, he would not want to live anywhere else, except maybe LA.
So, there you have it. We have to trade Hank to the Islanders for Tavares!! |

Rangers are not going to trade McD... he is the captain and will only be 30 at the end of his contract. Callahan was a different story - he was oft injured and had insane contract demands. If McD asks for $9M+ per year, then yea, trade his butt.
They first need to fire the coach. then you wait a month or 2. if still no progress it should be a full rebuild. We just drafted a few good young prospects. we have a few decent guys playing in the AHL. i dont think this would be a 3+ year rebuild. a year with a boat load of picks and prospects and they are right back in it.
Main problem is Hank. The rangers will continue to try and win now as long as he is on the team. I cant see them trading him and I dont know if he will want to go back to sweden to play as long as there is a chance to win the cup.

It's certainly not like we have an aging team, plenty of young legs still on the roster, adding an 18 year old in Dahlin and barely 19 year old in Chytil to full time next October makes them even younger |

The team to worry about in the whole Tavares situation is the Flyers, they have 18 guys signed next year and almost 16 million in cap space. |

Yeah but that's rebuilding. I think Chytil will be good, but he's gonna need time. And While adding Dahlin would help, He'll probably struggle a little. Why Tavares commit to that? |

His "team friendly deal" is why they will never trade McDonagh through at least the first half of next season if by then, a new deal can't be agreed upon to keep him a Ranger, instead of signing as a UFA likely with the Wild in the summer of 2019, in his home state he grew up in.
That's unless there's suddenly the need to make a FULL rebuild, with McDonagh then being just one of more than a few of the bigger names to be departing. With the contracts that lower playing level d'man are being paid today, the Rangers would be further behind the eight ball if not retaining McDonagh for good. Maybe the "C" on his jersey is weighing him down mentally, besides A.V. as to his play thus far in their 8 games with his constant d'man pairing changes as well. - RangerSaver
If they keep him they'll have to sign him until he's probably 37 or 38 at around $7M/year AAV. That's not a good idea. |

I am nearly positive that his play will improve. He's been consistently solid for pretty much his entire career and I find it hard to believe that all the sudden his play is going to fall off a cliff at age 28. |

If the Rangers continue to play like this, not losing every game, but struggling to get wins, they have to start trading guys. Guys that are must moves Nash, Grabner, DD and Holden. Guys that could be moved the completely change the mindset and look of the team. Mcdonagh, Kreider and Zucc. |

30 is ok for a fast footed Dman. 30 for Girardi is bad. 30 for duncan keith was ok.(not saying McD is as good as Keith but similar physical traits). |

what are we trading them that Sakic will accept. The Avs need Sakic to be fired and then a logical GM to trade him. A 1st for Duchene is all they will get. I cant see a team giving up more than that for a guy near the end of his contract. |

The Avs don't win that deal. Sakic has to win the deal. That's why it hasn't happened yet. |

So Sather, maybe. It would reek of desperation and probably be a move that set the franchise back. |

And trade for Thornton in February. |
