With 94 points last season being 1 point shy for the Isles and Lightning, that 95 points is also my minimum point requirement it will take to make the postseason, Tom. As I have written on earlier blogs, it could require between 95 to 100 points in the overall improved East Conf. this season to reach a Wild Card spot, with spots 1 to 3 in the Metro. Div. likely out of reach like last year, when the Rangers earned 102 points good for only 4th in the Metro., but at the least, the 1st WC spot.

No that would be the worst thing that could happen. Cause they'd be hoping for the 8th seed at best, just to face either Tampa or Toronto. Both offenses would shred the Rangers. #FallinForDahlin or #PrayForAndrei

So you’re saying you don’t want the rangers to make the playoffs this season?

I have always rooted for the Rangers, never booed a player on the team, always been positive, but I actually wouldn't mind if they got a lottery pick, sold off some assets and started next year with Chytil hopefully here and Andersson.

I'm not giving up on this year, and if they start a run I will be excited, just saying it wouldn't be the worst thing to happen if the Rangers missed.

Last postseason's two games in coaching "SAFE = DEATH" in their 3rd Periods with leads blown, resulting in losses instead, and changing that Ottawa series win in 5 games into a series loss in 6, may have been the beginning warning signs as well.

Can you please leave this poor dead horse alone? You've posted the same thing in every blog for the past month. We all watched the playoffs last year.

If they're a middle of the road team no I don't, I've had enough of the get there and anything can happen, I want assurances they can contend, this team no longer has that ability, I'd rather get the 1st pick overall than the 15th

You need another edit here, Tom, for the Rangers final 74 games to be played.

At 1-5-2 currently, in using your 9 additional projected OTL's, they would have to go 41-24-9 to end up with 95 points at 42-29-11.
Or:
They are currently on the pace for an unheard of 20 OTL's this season. If ending with that count, they would have to go 37-19-18 to finish 1 point higher at 96 points at 38-24-20.
Or:
Since they had only 6 OTL's during last season, if averaging those 6 with their current pace for 20, to end up with 13 OTL's for this season, that would mean they would need to go 40-23-11 to finish with 95 points at 41-28-13.

I know that "peter21" was lost and left here after your initial post only.

You think they are going to lose half the time on OT or Shootout? Ok, I'm sure that'll happen.

But the Rangers only likely possibility of a postseason spot Tom, as it was last season, and projected by most experts in the hockey world, was with them ending up with a Wild Card Spot. They are not finishing ahead of Pittsburgh, Columbus, and a weaker Washington team in the Metro. Div., barring some multi things going wrong for either of those three, including serious injuries to their top players, including their #1 goalie. So there is only one other Wild Card spot to make, other than the one you do not want to see them involved in. So why don't you want them to reach either of the two spots? You cannot assume that they would lose either series match up automatically. You have to get to the postseason to have that chance for a Cup, unless you are saying this about the Rangers in being a Devils fan in reality. Finishing with hockey's worst record does not guarantee a team of selecting the next McDavid or Matthews if available in the Draft.

I'm not saying that, but just listed it as an extreme, as per my words, "they are on the pace to an UNHEARD OF 20 OTL's this season thus far". That's why I listed that 3rd possibility in averaging last season's 6 OTL's with those 20, to finish at 13, when you initially had them projected with ending with 11 OTL's here.

I added this time that maybe his coaching demise really began with that fact of his "play to protect the lead only" style of SAFE = DEATH in those two losses.
The next time that I feel someone is getting on you erroneously or unnecessarily, as was the case after a comment you made the other day, I will no longer waste my time backing you up.
Jan had his words being told off twice earlier in the week by someone here as well which upset him even more so. But I guess that's why longtime members like JIMBO must have left this site for good it appears, with me at least being shocked with not seeing any of his new comments under the current situation of the Rangers.

Yikes man. Who cares what seed we are? If we enter the playoffs as an 8 seed winning 13 of our last 16 games on a great hot streak sign me the hell up!

Well thats why I said I'm not giving up and am not going to root for a failure, but "if" it does happen, I wouldn't be overly upset.

If we get a lottery pick, we’ll just have to listen to Tom complain about how we picked the wrong player the rest of the summer.

Dahlin, Svechnikov, Ty Smith, Filip Zardina and Rasmus Kupari are all keyed up for players to watch. Later in the first round it's Akil Thomas and Evan Bouchard

Yeah but like mrn pointed out, he's 30 when the first year of his new contract starts. He's going to get at least 6-7 years and is probably going to be at-or-around $7M/yr.

That's a major investment in a guy who is going to start declining pretty quickly on the wrong side of 30.

I'm really not trying to be funny or troll here, but the Rangers aren't exactly trending in the right direction to be taking that kind of risk. You could have $15M+ tied up in Lundqvist and McDonagh who, at that point, are going to be on different holes of the back nine of their careers. Doesn't exactly leave a ton of cap space for the Rangers to make moves to better the team.

- eichiefs9

This guy gets it. I've been saying trade Mac this year or next before we give him a 7 year 7 million dollar contract.

Both. I want the Rangers to pull a coyotes, take on a player with a terrible contract so the other team has to included a better pick. The Rangers have start thinking long term now.
- tomburton99

Nash is a brutal contract, but some teams could afford that at the deadline. Unfortunately term is killer so Henry and Shatts wont fetch a cent. Dont think you would ever part with Krieder, and everyone else seems to have too much term. Maybe Miller but this team isn't set up well to be sellers

Who will win the battle for the first coach to be fired this season? Will it be A.V.? Maybe not!
If their downward spirals continue, it may come down possibly to that Rangers game at Montreal next Saturday night, with Claude Julien once again being at risk as well. Montreal is now winless in their last 7, in being outscored 31-10 in them, & scoring at least 3 goals in only 1 of those 7 losses (4-3 OTL to the Leafs). They also have the worst goal differential in the NHL this season overall with a (-20) in being 1-6-1.
This is after them losing to Anaheim 6-2 on Friday night, despite out shooting the Ducks 51 to 45 with Gibson making 49 saves, while Price had 39. Pacioretty (with he being rumored to possibly being made available), had 10 SOG in 22:53.
After yielding the 6th goal on a deflection off his own teammate, which was also the final one of 3 Ducks goals scored within a 1:37 span in the 3rd, Price swung his stick hard at the right side goal post in disgust, a la Mike Smith style. Their fans, however, are likely giving them credit for at least scoring those 2 goals in this game.
So don't think that the Rangers should be tanking this season as being "said and done" only 10% in, for a better chance in receiving the #1 to 3 overall pick. The Canadiens may even outdo them, for one, for which I hope in preferring winning instead, that their medicine is not that upcoming rematch against A.V. & the Rangers on next Saturday night at Montreal.

Other Late Friday Night Miscellaneous:
(1) Dorsett: 2G & 1A in Vanc. win over Buffalo Fri. (& now 4G & 1A in his last 5 games).
(2) Winnipeg goalies: ......... Mason (0-3-0), (5.98 GAA), (.846 SV%)
.................................. Hellebuyck (4-0-0), (2.32 GAA), (.928 SV%)
(3) Andreas Athanasiou agrees to terms with Detroit (scratch him off Rangers wish list)

Nash's contract isn't an issue. The Rangers can't eat salary if they have to and it expires this years
