That's true. But, it's also true that that leadership core that made that team got older and less effective. That group didn't win the Ultimate prize, but they were always a better whole than the sum of their parts. Groups like that don't come around all the time. - Pete V
I agree with that and think both can be true about this situation |

So basically AV gets no credit?
Come on mrn, you're smarter than that. I get you can't stand the dude but you have to give him credit where its due.
I enjoyed the last 4 years under AV much more than the Torts, 5 guys lay in front of the goalie and rarely did we play offense.
I also think AV's time is probably up, but it doesn't mean I can't say he did some good things while here. - mdw7413
That's the way it is. There comes a time where every coach gets fired, and when they do the fan base usually views them as dog crap -- Torts, Renney, etc. That's the life of a coach.
Edit: I also think that Renney, Torts and AV all did positive things for the franchise. I thought it was time for Renney and Torts to go when they did, and AV's time maybe approaching if things don't turn quick. Don't see an option I love out there, however. |

This team has sunk to a new low. They're continually playing from behind since the continue to give up goals within the first minute or two of a game. They play with no heart or emotion and skate lackadaisically through the neutral zone. Although Torts out lived his time in NY the team played with heart and soul and teams new they were going to pay when skating into the zone. Hanks play has dropped off and probably needs to go as do a few others. CK should be a force on the ice like Wayne Simmonds but unfortunately he's adapted the play when I want to approach. Jimmy Vesy has fallen off the face of the earth and Nash can't buy a goal with his over priced contract.. I say start benching these clowns and bring up the kids even if it's one game. I'm still baffled how Holden and/or Kempfer outplayed Ryan Graves to be 6th or 7th D. Unfortunately Lindy won't be the answer if AV goes he needs to take freaking Scott Arneil with him. |

Yup. I loved that Torts brought defense, accountability, some toughness. I thought the style was lacking and sometimes extremely boring but he helped shape some of the young guys into very good players.
I really believe if AV goes, Ruff steps right in. I don't think any outside help is forthcoming. |

I loved when Torts benched Gaborik for not blocking shots with his face. |

Simmonds
The only Flyer I would allow on my team.
I disagree about Vesey. I think he's one of the hardest workers out there so far this year and about 90% of the time he makes the right decision. But he's probably looking over his shoulder all the time wondering when one mistake is going to cut his ice time in half again. Same can be said for Buch.
Kreider needs to be told that the first time he has a shift where he's not skating full out and driving the net will be his last one of the game. |

I’m not sure exactly what it was, but PDB always had a knack for getting Torts to become completely unhinged. |

100%.
There is no way they are looking to bring someone else in when they have a coach of Ruff's pedigree in-house.
And whatever you think of Ruff, he does have the resume to back up that decision. |

Rangers missed their opportunity to find a suitable rplacement for AV in the summer, now we're going to either live with this poop show which as constituted right now doesn't stand a chance or Ruff which again the team doesn't stand a chance, the Ruff hire stinks of Sather who I still feel should be out of the organization completely, his presence exudes failure, so unless Gorton is a magician we can hope for the top pick overall, it's either Cup or blow it up |

Yeah not sure. DeBoer was like a mannequin on the bench. Rarely said anything and had no facial expressions. |

Don't hold on to Hank too long. The Devils held on to Marty for too long. It's hard to say goodbye to a legend but it is a breath of fresh air when they are gone. Hank's contract is a tough one now and into the future... - SnipeDevil6
We have slats to thank for Hank's contract being the way it is. |

Ruff is a dinosaur, I wouldn't want him anywhere near my team. Best course of action would probably be to get someone young that can embrace the new style of NHL hockey. |

Didn’t understand that contract, Hank wasn’t going anywhere. Would 6 years at 7 mil. Really not have gotten it done? |

I just ment in the sense that are equals, decent to good coaches who have never won before. Very similar resumes. |
