It's almost as if goals and assists are meaning less without positive shot differentials.

By Umberger treatment I meant press box until the foregone conclusion that's being bought out after the season. I really think that's where this is heading but It's definitely too early to say for sure.

I don't think Lehtera would ever consider a mutual termination. He's making way too much money the next 2 seasons. He'd make a fraction of it playing overseas.

They can't buy him out until the offseason, at which point he'd have one season left. His salary over 2 years from a buyout would be $3.333M (salay next year is $5M). The Flyers should be good salary-wise for next year, but 2 years from now is when Provorov, Simmonds, Raffl, Weal, Konecny, and Sanheim all need new deals. If the Flyers offered him $3.5M lump-sum next year to mutually terminate, he would be making more money in both the short-term and the long-term, and the Flyers don't have to worry about $1.667M dead weight in 2 years.

That isn't how it works, man. You can't just not play a guy in the hopes he gets rid of his contract. NHL contracts are guaranteed and the NHLPA has a lot of reasons to keep it that way.

I know it is only seven games in, but I am a little worried that the Flyers have been shut out twice already. Like I said, I know its incredibly early, but I just have that little nagging feeling.

I'm not saying he's useless, just that there are ways to get rid of a guy aside from buying him out. And I never said to shame him/not play him. I said weigh a buy out vs. a mutual termination.

I'll take full responsibility for that shutout. It was my first game of the year and it was bound to happen after the plethora of goals the team scored over the prior couple games like you said. To quote Andy Reid, I have to do a better job. I'm sorry everyone.

No, Im concerned that they are struggling against really good goaltenders. The 8 goal game was great but it was against a backup. I think my real worry is that this team could be a feast or famine type situation. But like I said, I know it's early but that doesn't mean we should ignore being shutout twice in seven games. Just something to keep an eye on.

I'd put Manning on the ice as a center every time McDavid was out there, and his sole job would be to inquire as to McDavid's health the whole game, attempting to follow him around the ice.

If they continue the ratio and have been shut out 6 times in 21 games or 8 times in 28 games, then I'll be concerned.

They had a lot of good chances last night and held a good team to 1 goal. Now, had they been badly outplayed and shutout, I'd be more concerned.

Sanheim played strong. HELL the team as a whole didn't really deserve to lose this game. It was really a duel of two goalies on their games.

That's one of the positives I took away from this game. Sanheim didn't look like a guys playing in his second NHL game and Hagg continues to look solid which I think gives Ghost all the more confidence. I don't think the Flyers have ever had a homegrown stud defenseman and now we possibly could have a couple. The future is exciting.
