Mike Augello: Will the Leafs be proactive in upgrading their D?
- mikeinbuffalo

I honestly don't think they need to right now. We have depth, skill/speed, and a bit of grit. What's realistically out there as an upgrade that's not going to cost us a Marner/Nylander/Brown?

I understand your optimism.

It's a proven point that winning the octocup = great playoffs success to come.

Just look at the Hab....

Oh...

Oh my...

I'm sorry.

The last time the leafs were 6-1 to start the season.....they took an 18 wheeler on a scenic tour off a huge cliff later in the season.

But not this year :

We're taking a ride to the promise land.

Maybe

Hey go easy on me.

I had a very troubling night.... I remember going to sleep after downing a few pints at the local brewery.... and then I woke up completely somewhere else in the house with no recollection of getting up during the night.

That was brutal. He had a straight line on the numbers for so long and just crushed him.

I wouldn't put it past him for doing something like that intentionally. He threatened Matt Martin's life.

That's a particularly dirty one too.

He's way taller than Vatrano and he still looks like he's leaving the ice a bit or going on his tip-toes when he makes the hit.

I've read this from a lot here.

Mitch, we're going to teach Tyler and James a lessen by having you play with Dom/Eric and Matt.

- walshyleafsfan

It actually does make a bit of sense. The Bozak-JVR line does need a player who has a bit of grit and determination to which Brown can amply provide.

Having said that, I'd rather see Marner playing alongside Marleau-Kadri then buried on the 4th line. It wouldn't hurt to have a magician like Marner dishing pucks to Patty and Naz.

That would, of course, mean that the 4th line would be hits-overkill with Komagod and Martin cruising the wings. I'm totally down with that.

Bozak and JVR need Uncle Leo to babysit them...

There is nothing wrong with a kid getting some forth line time to figure out his game.
- Cfser

I agree.

Is he a good player? Yes
Is he going to bounce back? Yes
Has he been playing poopty? Yes

If you had to absolutely trade on of the 3 (which i don't think you do)? Marner

I still think swapping JVR and Marleau would be good.

Currently those two lines are (obviously with marner going back to his normal spot)

JVR(skill guy)-Bozak(whatever)-Marner(skill guy with some 300 grit sandpaper)
Marleau(great down low)-Kadri(skill with some 200 grit sandpaper)-Komarov(basically 100% 40 grit sandpaper)

If you swap Jvr and Marleau, you add a skill guy to a line where two guys can already play a bit rougher, and you add a guy who's good down low to a line that has trouble cycling the puck and creates a lot of turnovers.
