When you have the best goalie in the world, you should be trying to put together a team to win now.
- hillbillydeluxe

Definitely, but its my opinion that it accelerated a team that wasnt quite ready. Signing FA's and trading is overpaying for subpar performances covered by an elite goalie

A little bit on the 3, I'll give you that. It was a poor angle for Kassian to take

The problems I have with the Gudbranson hit is that Vatrano's shoulders are parallel with the boards the entire time and Vatrano slows down prior to contact. Attacking the numbers is a bad decision, but if Vatrano hadnt slowed down, Gubrandson would have missed the hit entirely, making it an even worse decision for me

- WhiteLie

Since I can't seem to find another replay of Guds hit online. (It's okay SN is replaying the game right now and it's about to happen.) Thank you PVR. Pause rewind, pause rewind.

I don't doubt that Guds hit was a penalty.

I don't know if Guds thinks he's going to turn. He hits him pretty square. It is a much larger man hitting a smaller player. Guds takes one stride and coasts.

On about the 10th rewind, I would say 5 was probably the right call.

I just don't think that Kassian's hit is any better. He hits him much harder and much further from the boards and knows he's facing the wall for much longer.

It's consistency that I have the problem with.

I missed last night's game, can anyone tell me if Gagner played ok or does Jake deserve a shot playing with Bo?
- Renidrag

Only if Jake plays well enough to get bumped to the third line.

yeah, i tend to agree. they appeared closer than they were and took the win now approach.

they still have a shot to correct the course but i wouldn't be hopeful.

I know this might sound ridiculous to some, but I think having Carey Price made it worse for him. The pressure to win in that market is huge, add in the best goalie in the world and all of a sudden you have to trade and sign for players in order to win now.

I think NYR was pretty lucky to have the success the did around Lundqvist, and will start to pay for it. Montreal will go through the same cycle, but worse IMO

- WhiteLie

it's not ridiculous at all. what's ridiculous is building around a goalie.

You're being an inconsistent ref.

Gudbranson took one step from the net to hit him... he's just huge so the impact was harder. Kagan took many strides to top speed then smashed him as he was turning away from the boards... Kassian would have hit him in the back of he hadn't turned towards him.

Both deserved a 5 minute major in my mind.

- Pres.cup

5 and ejection would've been my call for both as well

I was just pointing out that it was poor decision making from Gudbranson in my mind

Ref went from hesitating to even call it, to a 5 and a game, it was a 2 minute penalty that's it, the same amount as a tap on the hands

Consistency between calls is definitely an issue. Both unnecessary

I don't know if he has done enough not to deserve more minutes but at the same time he hasn't done anything to not deserve a better look. I wonder if the fact that Utica only played 1 games in two weeks here was a factor. They would rather have him playing and learning some in the NHL (even limited minutes).

Then when Utica schedule gets heavier take what he has learned down to the AHL.

Didn't look further down the account.

Yeah I agree. it's got to be either 5 and 10 or 2 minutes. I know it would slow down the game but could the play be quickly reviewed. It is sort of game changing to get a 5 minute PP. Something you don't want to see the refs get wrong.

Appears Gudbranson feet leave ice as well. Unnecessary hit imo.

I like Dahlin, but that looks like the puck watcher/stick waver league.

That's a two minute boarding call...that's it.

Bruins player knew he was coming yet still turned his back.

It totally is a stick waver league. NHL be waving their sticks at him too. Same way they do as Karlsson. Just like Hutton and MDZ did to Pastrnak last night.
