Co-workers, pfffft. Try owning a restaurant when half the customers are Habs fans and another 20% are Ottawa fans.

Me too. I played against a buddy in our Ultimate hat league last night (he's usually on my team) who's a big Hab fan and every time they turned it over or missed a pass, I'd say, "are you trying to play like the Habs out here? I don't think that's a good idea..."

They ended up beating us though.

Tell me about it.

That guy who blogs in the Montreal Gazette... Jack Todd, said if the habs don't right the ship it's going to be a long winter in Montreal with Toronto winning the way they are.

Very much looking forward to it.

Very much...

The thing is the Habs strategy has been to try and win now while Carey Price is in his prime, when clearly the rest of the roster is not close to being good enough . This will cost Bergevin his job and rightly so.

Trade Price now.

We'll offer Pickard, Leivo and a 2nd.

Bergevin has attempted to be shrewd in trying to right the roster without mortgaging the future. I feel for him.

He's really in a damned if you do/damned if you don't situation.

If he gives Markov and Radulov what they're asking for, then they keep some of the key players from last season and have no cap space left. He let them go for nothing.

If he wants to shore up scoring, he needs to trade for it because the pipeline doesn't look like it contains any future superstars. Sergachev for Drouin was a start but he's been quite unwilling to give up any draft picks to get what he needs in terms of scoring forwards. Also getting a #1 C is impossible (see the Drouin to the middle experiment).

Basically, he's done his best to try to improve his team without giving up draft picks and without blowing up his cap space... but it doesn't work that way when you've got no one in your system who can help. (obviously Hudon and Mete are good but outside of that I don't hear any murmurs of anybody else making a splash)

I said about a year ago that if he truly wants to compete, he should spend all that he can to put a winning team together, future be damned, or completely blow it up, keep price, and hope they can turn it around in 2 years like the Leafs.

If he expends all the habs assets and they don't win, he gets fired. If he starts a rebuild, chances are he gets fired. If he does the current middle ground type thing where he's willing to give up some, but not all, to ice a mediocre team at best, he'll probably get fired. Might as well go out in a blaze of glory trying to win the cup.

Matthews having 10 points in 7 games is pretty sweet considering he’s also a +10 on the season.

Nylander is also a +10. Trade him for a box of nails.
