Vegas is easy. They had a favorable schedule and people took the "expansion team" too damn lightly early on. They are a fairly decent team with a Stanley Cup winning goalie backstopping them. The more impressive part is the last two wins with Subban in net who has been good but shaky, but the team is playing very solidly as a unit in front of him.

NJ I'm not that surprised either really considering they changed their game and added more of an offence instead of that defensive trap rely on your strong defence and goalie to win 1-0 or 2-1.

Vegas - lots to prove with big chips on their shoulders. Frank you guys for leaving us unprotected.

For me the surprise is St. Louis given all their injuries

Woops. Yeah, it was Marleau vs Boyle. My bad.
- Thecakeisalie

Would have been cool if Boyles first name was Lance.

I think Mcdavid is the most talented player in the game, but I think the fans already have an attachment to Matthews.
- Aetherial

They can both do things that the other player can't.. being super fast is easy to see, but being a total thief at stealing the puck and having a really strong defensive game isn't as noticeable..

Yeah and I mean Tuch is proving to be great, Marchessault is good, Neal is their saviour and big weapon, and hell Perron has scored a couple too. ANd Fleury really is their great equalizer

How many of you would still trade Matthews for McDavid in a heartbeat?
- Arctic_AARDVARK

Yeah, I'd say it's not an easy choice anymore. Matthews is a very special player too. Different style of player, but maybe even more dominant at times. Mcdavid has amazing speed, Matthews is a wizard with the puck and seems to take back the puck from the opposition at will sometimes (a few games ago he did 4 takeaways in one shift), plays excellent defensively, and has a sick shot.

Not to mention I think Matthews is the more physical and better defensive player

I love how Matthews and Nylander eat up time on the ice...their possession numbers - (which I never look at) must be right up there.

Nylander is a dominant player as well - great on the forecheck and comes up with the puck so often. And he's only going to get better.

There's zero holes in his game.

I've honestly never seen a hockey player this well rounded.

I can't believe we have Auston Matthews๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

During the Chicago game Matthews had 84% possession. Shots were 29-3 ES while he was on the ice! Absolutely dominant.

No doubt most fans of other teams appreciate what he does 100%.

Leafs are gonna fill some rinks this year. Great for the game.

The two most surprising at the top are Vegas and NJ to me. How long are they going to keep this up? I have no idea how Vegas is doing it, New Jersey actually seems pretty good this year.

2 more weeks max. Both smoke and mirrors, devils to a slightly lesser extent
