Coaching staff has done some good stuff but are they being over coached and just need to play?

I was wondering about that, too. I think he's saying, less structure, more pond hockey.

No, no. You ARE trying to be a d!ck. Just own it, bro?

Though I do agree with you. What "good stuff" has the coaching staff done? "They're reeeaaaaallllllly trying hard out there".

More pond hockey=more mistakes. More mistakes=more pucks in your own net. Sure, what the hell, let's give it a whirl. Nothing else has worked.

When you look at elite teams in this league, a lot of them have former head coaches as assistants. When you look at our entire coaching staff it screams of inexperience. Not that these guys weren't good solid NHL players but I feel like in the Snow era it's been the hire my buddy system and not the best man available system.

I believe Snow won't hire anyone he doesn't think he can control. So bringing in an experienced, outspoken head coach doesn't fit his m.o. That's why it's always first-time head coaches. Just my opinion, though.

Maybe part of it for sure. I've been pretty negative on the direction of the team the last 18 months. They were 1 or 2 players away after the Tampa series and in my opinion now they are worse.

Isles will never hire a big name coach as long as Garth is GM.

I used to say the exact same thing...........a dozen or so years ago about Mike Milbury. I'm beginning to wonder if part of the problem is that big name coaches just don't want to coach the Islanders? Why would a coach who's in demand choose a team with ownership issues, arena issues, etc.?

Hiring Weight so quickly after the end of the season tells me Isles did not even want to try to get a proven coach. Isles might not be the #1 option for proven coaches but I doubt Garth and co have made serious efforts to hire them.

Great article, this guy must be Erni's cousin.

Favorite part:

The fact is Pelech played this rush poorly. Now first let me just acknowledge that both Tavares and Eberle could’ve done better to get back on defense following their missed opportunity on the other end (to put it lightly). Be that as it may, by the time Brown hit the red line he was already past Tavares. Pelech should have - and in fact, appeared to have - seen the unguarded Brown coming in with speed.

Pelech had time to get over to guard Brown as he drove to the net. He failed to do so. That he ended up deflecting the puck into his own net is almost besides the point. His failure to get back is what led him to have to reach for a puck that he could very well have just intercepted had he stayed with Brown.

But lets blame it all on Pelech! If he only had a 100 mph slapshot

Pelech sure has to do a lot of shat to make up for his teammates.

Pelech possession stats are 2nd or 3rd on D and is plus 2, yeah I know stupid stat blah blah blah but if he was such an abortion in his own end he would certainly be minus would he?

This guys a tool!

Maybe. It's kind of hard to know for sure. If, over the years, Snow had approached some proven coaches, and they displayed zero interest, is that something Snow would publicize? I'm guessing not....

Not sure how this 11F/7D thing will work for #Isles. Guess that Pulock doesn't see much 5v5 time, 25-53-15 take shifts and Fs rotate w/29-66

Me neither...more specifically I don't like the 11 forward thing. Especially because the Isles traditionally turn into a chaotic mess whenever they're a forward short due to an in-game injury and have to adjust, even if it's to a fourth-line player. Instead of just double-shifting someone on the fourth line and keeping the rest consistent, the bench just seems to vomit out three random players for 60 seconds at a time and there are your lines for the rest of the game. Tough to build chemistry that way.

I realize that was under Cappy and not Weight, but, well, I guess we'll see how much that changes now.
