BUFFALO – Instead of using a temporary captain this preseason, Sabres coach Phil Housley has named three alternate captains each game.

A slew of players, including perhaps the top three candidates for the vacant captaincy – Jack Eichel, Kyle Okposo and Ryan O’Reilly – have worn an ‘A.’
Housley is in no rush to name a captain.

“We’re just going to wait,” he said this afternoon following practice inside HarborCenter. “This has only been a couple weeks for me really getting on the ice with these guys, getting to know them and seeing how they react and fit into the team. That’ll happen maybe after the preseason. I don’t have a definite answer for that.”

Problem is that article was before they posted the assistant captains on October 5th on instagram

based on the first 7 games

give kane or pommer the C

jack and the other the A's

honestly if Kane did not take so many penalties, he would be a slam dunk for the C

also Jack has taken a few dumb penalties

I get that the NHL is just enforcing a rule that has been in the rule books for years in terms of the faceoff thing, but when Pominville got called for a penalty on it, the Vegas player also had his skate over the line.

Also, there's no lines on the dots in the neutral zone, so it seems crazy that a rule only applies for 4 out of the total 9 faceoff zones

Kane's play is captain like

However his contract or lack thereof is an issue

BUFFALO, NY - After Sabres' GM Jason Botterill said Wednesday they would not name a captain to start the season, they'll now do it by committee.

The team announced four alternate captains head of their season opener tonight against Montreal. Ryan O'Reilly will once again wear the "A" along with Zach Bogosian, Kyle Okposo and Jack Eichel.

That's not why he was called for a penalty

He was called because he made contract with the opposing player before the puck was dropped

Right but does that mean they are going to rotate them or what?

Kane had an A with Okposo being out but Okposo had one yesterday and Kane did not

They said it was because of being over the line on the broadcast.

Either way, they let much more egregious penalties go all game all the time. It seems ticky tack to call that stuff.

Well, I believe the plan is to rotate between the 4 guys mentioned, however since Bogo and KO were out they needed a a 3rd which is probably why Kane had it the other night.

I think Kane is playing great, but he’s on his way to getting a 7 mil contract.

I honestly would love him here playing like this, staying out of the news...but this blue line still needs investment

- sbroads24

I will cost more than 7M a year to sign Kane to a long term contract. Sabres are already paying ROR 7.5M a year. That's a lot of dough for third line numbers. Heck, even Okposo is making 6M a year and he's done.

Kane does not appear to be a guy willing to give a hometown discount

The announcers have no clue what the rules are most of the time.

Also on Vegas's 2nd goal there was a total pick on ROR which should have been called

Honestly, I think they could kick someone out of the faceoff every single time (kind of like holding in football which happens every play), it's just something I think the refs decide when they want to call it. Whatever happened to the rule to speed up play that if a player wasn't in the dot within so many seconds they would drop the puck anyway?

Or when they are being told to enforce it.

I get the crack down on the slashing

The faceoff rule has always been in the rule book, it's nothing new, they were just told to enforce it

I still don't understand the enforcement of that rule though, because again, there's only 4 faceoff dots that have the lines. The other 5 don't.

Take the lines out of it...

The lines are for them to set up

They don't call a penalty for crossing the line, they call a penalty (or kick a guy out) for making contract with the opposing player before the puck is dropped

Not saying you're wrong or right here I am genuinely curious

The group effort has been a key point raised by everyone around the Sabres dressing room. Even the four alternate captains named on Thursday are likely to change. "We're going to rotate them," head coach Phil Housley said

Interesting

Only reason they changed this month anyway was injuries though

Was a fan of him in Peg. trust me he will not stay out of the news or conflict. Guy could be a perennial 40 Goal scorer if he ever got his act together. So much talent. And do you think he will be a Sabre next season? That cap will be interesting.

aside from being late due to the nba all star game he has been clean as a sabre

since the alleged incident never led to anything

I think he has earned to right to assume he has grown up, based on his tenure with the sabres

it's not like he drove into a coffee shop drunk

I’m telling you right he will probably be gone at the deadline so I’m not even gonna worry about it

Terry saving his money for JT

- GERBE!!!75PTS

Gerbe JT isn't going to go from one team that isn't constantly making the playoffs to the sabres unless he is overpaid by a large margin, it would be going back to the situation he already is in

He will go to a contender or will stay with the islanders

"Police reported that the driver of the truck left the scene of the accident and that the vehicle and O’Reilly were found a short distance from each other just minutes after the accident."

I wonder how much her silence cost ROR

I am guessing 20 grand
