They can't score, they can't defend and goalies are subpar.
That pretty much explains it. |

secondly, since his arrival Julien seems to have this team playing more of a possession styled game like he did with Boston.. - DoubleDown
So basically wrong coach for this team on a 5 yr contract.

yeah im not getting the whole Galchenyuk thing. it's making me side with Tanner and that doesn't feel good. - DoubleDown
They need to split 67 from 92..
If this coach is about rewarding hard play, they definately need to change that line because only 92 belongs there.
Also, as much as we need a #1C, Drouing would benifit so much playing on the wing being able to join the rush.
At this point, I would be currious to see 92-14-27. Pleks is rejuvenated looking for a new contract in summer. He's playing quite well. This would be similat to the 46-14-27 we once loved. |

well i think he's a good enough coach to adapt but i don't think anyone saw this type of start coming and there's likely no time. they're another 2-3 straight losses from the season being over. |

from what i have seen so far this year (important to remember here that i know very little about hockey), i have 2 observations.
first, this team doesn't seem to have been built with any cohesion or blueprint behind it. for the most part, you have a big, lumbering defence and small, quick forwards who don't seem to complement each other.
secondly, since his arrival Julien seems to have this team playing more of a possession styled game like he did with Boston. it worked well in Boston's heydey because they were big and strong all over the ice and that allowed them to play that plodding game with success. Montreal's forwards are small and more importantly, incredibly soft. they are built for a more counterattacking style. which is hard to do when your defence can't move the puck.
i'll shut up now. - DoubleDown agrEEd

The game changed since Julien won the Cup in 2011, this team isn't built to win, and I don't think the coach can adapt to make it work. You win with skill and speed now, not with big bearded (frank) defenseman who can't make an outlet pass even if his life depends on it. |

there is no quick fix, not with the assets they have to trade. They won't commit to a rebuild, management thinks this is a great group.
The defense is better than last year

outside of Weber and Mete, the whole D group sucks so far this year, no chemistry but let's be honest, the forward group is not helping at all, they keep (frank)ing up on defensive coverage. |

i don't necessarily agree. those Bruins teams had a lot of skill especially up front. we saw LA win 2 Cups with a similar approach. you can win that way still if you have the proper personnel. |

Plekanecs is the only one capable of winning faceoffs.. At this point, in the offensive zone, he coun't possibly be worst than Paccioretty.
I'm not saying resign him, just let Drouin play wing without having to worry about who's defending at center..
Obviously a Tavares would be much better, but not happening..
Maybe they could trade for Desharnais
Anyway, I'm sure the current lines will work.. 11 goals in 7 games |
