I feel like Matthews might have more overall points right now, and a better defensive game? I don't know...hard to interpret

So far so good. It's early, but it looks like only one of the 37 rookies we had last year is in that sophomore jinxy thing...and arguably, he is one of the most skilled and talented - so MM could very well sneak out of this - and maybe with a new skill to add to his resume.

I really don't think so.

Trade JVR for D help?


To me all the Bozak and JVR trade talk shouldn't be just because their contracts are up, it should also be about fitting the team style of defensive play going forward.

If you replace JVR with a 20g scorer and get a good D man in exchange it will save you a few more GA, the Leafs would probably end up on the plus side in the end.

If we keep Bozak on a cheap deal but put Kap and Marner on his wings....Kap is very good defensively....and then play them with your top pairing D. Bob's your uncle!

You probably dramatically change the GF/GA differential. Freddy's stats. And, WINS... especially in the playoffs!

Just a thought.
