Manning is another player that worked his way up from the minors to the NHL and has a strong work ethic. He is a heart and soul character player despite his limitations as a player. He also deserves to be cheered.

I think every play deserves at least golf clap applause on opening night.

Now after introductions, hey you paid for your ticket, go crazy and boo if you feel the need.

For introductions I think showing respect for the player is the best approach.

I wouldn't boo him. He has his limitations, and he'll likely never live up to his cap hit, but he's a fine #5/6 guy. The problem is that he's been misused as a top pair player, where his deficiencies get magnified. If he was being used on the third pair and making 1/3 of his cap hit, no one would care. I actually think he's been an above-average player so far this year, arguably some of his best hockey as a Flyer to date.

As for the contract, just remember that he is the same player today that he was when he signed the deal, and the Flyers didn't have to give him the money. They offered him that deal, and he would be a fool to turn it down.

The reason the Isles traded him is because he wanted more than they were willing to give him.

We just need to let the AMac Provy duo make us sick all year kinda like Therien playing with Rico all season long....
- dragonoffrost

Watching that duo play against Ovechkin and Kuznetsov and carrying play certainly made me sick.

Nothing wrong with booing during a game if a team or a player is playing poorly or made a bad play. During opening game ceremonies, have some class.

Absolutely. Garth Snow out-maneuvered Holmgren twice over on that one.

My point was that this isn't nothing new in Flyerland.

Good read:

http://sonsofpenn.com/5-s...-sanheim-flyers-capitals/

I was really intrigued by the "A New Top Pair" part of the article.

- ggunky

It's actually a bad read in my opinion. His take on the first goal and who is to blame is completely wrong and the author has no understanding of Flyers systems play or defensive zone coverage schemes. He omits the fact that on that goal, Voracek was a spectator and was the goat on the goal against as well as Giroux. He also left that out of his critique of the top lines play. That line especially Voracek, were phenomenal offensively but the effort on that goal by Voracek and Giroux is inexcusable and needs to be cleaned up. Voracek has been horrendous in his own zone going back to last year. They're not going to be able to take advantage of a depleted and worn out defense corps every game.

Even with the state of the Caps the Flyers still win that game. Maybe by a 5-4 score but the Flyers still would have prevailed.

I was more focused on the Top Pair aspect of the article. I didnt realize the ice time Ghost and Hagg are getting.

Impressive.

It is. In the games I've seen so far, both Hagg and Gostisbehere have been very good.

Does anyone not realize the rationale of starting manning over sanheim vs the caps? Ovechkin had what 8,9 goals coming into the opener? The coaching staff was obviously worried that the capitals would come into the game and eat sanheim up.

I love sanheims game and didn't think he would fair poorly, but my job doesn't count in my opinion or play of rookies. Maybe we should reserve our judgement until the team and sanheim have played a few more games before we go apesh!t over his usage.

Ghost is a top pairing defenseman
Radko Gudas is also a top pair defenseman, and is Shea Weber.

discuss.
