If A.V. is still around, it wouldn't matter if we traded for the #1 overall pick without chancing receiving it through tanking means.
If A.V. were coaching the Devils, their promising stud, Will Butcher would not have 8 assists in his first 5 NHL games. Under A.V., he would be lucky enough to have been given just 8 minutes of total ice time in his first NHL 5 games. - RangerSaver
For all the poop AV gets for young players can you please look at Vesey and Buch?
Especially this year with how big of a role Buch is being fed... |

The fact that people have literally given up on the season 6 games in is absolutely pathetic. The people who are doing this have no spine at all and don't deserve to root for the team when they turn it around. - rangerdanger94

1. if* they turn it around.
2. You can't dictate how people express their feelings towards the team. |

Ok so we are back to square 1. Could the Rangers turn it around, yeah they could. Nothing they've shown say they will anytime soon unless they adjust. They play poor defensive zone hockey, and they don't have center depth. It's a poor recipe for a hockey team. |

I love your positiveness here, rangerdanger, as I usually am 99%, except in this case on A.V./Arniel, and the numbers matter. I don't see many here "giving up on the season". They may want A.V. out in chief. But the odds prove that falling behind too far prior to the first 20 games, requires winning about 2/3 of the balance of your games to make the postseason in a tougher Eastern Conference than a year ago. The numbers do not lie in the end, and right now, unless their play drastically improves soon, personnel changes of more than one kind will likely have to be made to attempt to salvage the season. |

I know. I checked this morning, right now the Rangers have the worst playoff probability of any team. Not just the Metro. |

The thing is, Buffalo, Arizona, etc. are going to finish worse than the Rags, the point probabilities on the side column are the issue.
42-25-9 the rest of the way to get to 95 points, and no guarantees that’s enough.
I will say this, 3 point games blow. Go back to ties after one OT. Stop rewarding teams with 11-12 “loser points”. |

A.V. has no other current NHL experienced options available of any age that can produce any better. There for him lies part of his problem. |

The East will require 95 to 100 points to secure a Wild Card spot. Forget the Metro. Div. That number could again be like the Blue Jackets 108 points were to earn 3rd place there. |

But in a tougher East this season, that number could rise to 100 points for the #2 WC spot. |

While we are on that subject, the new playoff format blows. Two division winners should be the 1-2 seeds. The next 6 are placed on conference standings. No more of this 2 vs 3 in the division for the opening round. |

Think it should just go by points for each conference. You are the top seed you play the worst team. Each round the same thing.
So if you are in a crap division and win it but have less points than a wildcard you are still the lowest seed. |

I like it because you could potentially have the 2 best teams in a division playing for the ECF or WCF. Good rivalry games |

Just wondering if anyone else thinks this way. I was keeping a close eye on Buchnevich last night because I've been skeptical of him lately. There were many opportunities last night in particular that he could have taken a shot from the dot or top of the circle but instead he passed the puck into a clogged slot area. In battles in the corner he looks soft and is not battling for the puck. He almost looks uninterested out there basically. As of right now I don't think Buchnevich will be anything more than a 15+ goal scorer and maybe put up 40 points. |

Last season:
Atlantic Div.: Montreal - 103 pts., Ottawa - 98 pts., Boston - 95 pts.
Metro. Div.: Washington - 118 pts., Pitt. - 111 pts., Columbus - 108 pts.
Wild Card: NY Rangers (102 pts.), Toronto - 95 pts.
(Closest OUT): Tampa & NY Isles (94 pts. each), Philly - 88 pts., Carolina - 87
My projections this season:
Atlantic Div: Tampa, Toronto, Boston (matched Jan's "PSN" Oct. 10th picks)
Metro. Div.: Pittsburgh, Columbus, Washington (Jan: Pitt, Rangers, Columbus)
Proj. Wild Card Contenders: Montreal, Ottawa, Rangers, Isles, Philly, Carolina
My Wild Cards: Rangers, Carolina
So the Rangers chances of earning another Wild Card spot will likely come down to beating out 2 of these 6 above W.C. contending teams.
I believe that Jan had in the Metro's finishing order, Pitt, Rangers, & Columbus, followed by Wash., & I believe, Carolina. But I don't recall offhand his balance, and whether or not he listed 2 Wild Card teams of either Conference. |

I agree with this and it’s why I’ve been on the devils thread trying to understand why I should give up on the rangers 6 games in because of only one win and a 3-2 loss to the eventual 2018 Stanley cup champion New Jersey Devils |

I was tough on Buch last year. I think deservedly, but this year he has been one of the Rangers hardest workers. Making plays happen, 1st on the forecheck, hustling on the back check.
If I had to pick the three best Rangers so far. Buch, Zib, Staal |

Vegas Knights put Marchessault and Haula (both, lower body injuries) and Fleury (concussion) on IR.
That stat chart of favorites to make the postseason should be changing quickly. |

NHL needs to go back to the old 1-8 playoff format and old OT rules. Stop fixing things that are not broken. Plenty other things to look at. |
