Great blog Jan, the players are responsible themselves but 90% of this utter failure so far is on AV, his inability to adjust becomes more each game, every team in the league now knows how to slow us down and beat us, his constant line changes and defensive combos is 100% that of a desperate coach with no answers, no solutions, none, if the Rangers want to salvage this season he needs to go now not in a month not when it's too late, i.e. the Isles last season, had they made the move earlier they may have made the playoffs

That mental fragility is a big component. Confidence is huge in any athlete but especially elite ones. The great ones can push past the self doubt, the average ones cannot. Let’s see what intestinal fortitude this team has. Can they pull themselves out of this downward spiral or will they get trapped by it?

Yup, its what I see as the biggest problem. I don't see a coaching change or a trade doing anything. These guys have to do it themselves.

My biggest issue with AV is the constant line changes. He should have figured out some lines and left them together. Can't be any worse than the 1-5 they are now.

Disagree, it's his job to get these players going in the right direction, he also jettisoned Buekeboom and now The Rangers have the most giveaways in the NHL, 82, with the next closest team at 70. Mac has 4 partners in 6 games, Ruff has input but AV makes the lineup. If he stays I see them having an Avalanche season this year, no pun intended

Also the Rangers haven't had a successful breakout plan since 1994, a stretch pass isn't a breakout, there's a serious lack of creativity on this team, game plan game plan game plan

How about last season's East Conf. as opposed to the improved East C. this season?
(1) Blue Jackets: 108 points was only good enough for 3rd place in Metro. Div.
(2) Rangers: (48-28-6) for 102 points last season earned them 1st W. C. spot
(3) Leafs: 95 points earned them the 2nd Wild Card spot
(4) Lightning & Isles: 94 points each, & missed the postseason ... WHY?
They both had slow extended starts, and ran out of games to catch up in the end. In addition, Tampa was without Stamkos for nearly the full season, and the Isles were forced to fire Capuano as Head Coach, but a little bit too late (i.e., 1 point too late).
If 95 points was the playoff requirement in the East last season, it could be as high as 100 in the improved East this season, despite some of the NHL games results of these first two weeks.
Rangers wise, to end up at that 100 points mark, let's assume they finish with the same number of OT Losses with 6, their final overall record would end up being 47-29-6. After their 1-5-0 start, their record over their final 76 games must then be 46-24-6 to do so.

Well I agreed with you the constant line shuffling is what I see as AV's biggest problem.

No coach is going to put confidence in grown men though. If they can't fix that themselves it doesn't matter who the coach is. That is squarely on them.

Would it really be the worst thing in the world if the Rangers have a crappy season and get a lotto pick after making the playoffs for how many years in a row now? Supposedly a good draft, and not sure anyone here thought they are a contender this year.

I want them to do well but if they get a top three pick this year, it might actually do more help than if they had an average year.

22 games over .500 the rest of the way?

As a Giants and Rangers fans I never dreamed 2 seasons would be over by the middle of October

Say we end up with the first pick overall, Dahlin and trade Mac or Svenchnikov?

One of my teams is actually still 5-0 and I'm great shape. Antonio Brown, Gronk, Hopkins, Hunt, Watson...had Cook and Carson too before they died.

My other team is hot garbage.

This is the draft to keep your first round pick. There is a kid in the QMJHL, Joe Veleno, who was granted exceptional status, who might not go in the top 5. That's how deep this draft is. So naturally I fully expect the Rangers to trade the pick++++ for Duchene here soon.

Wonder how good Tkachuk's son will be. Need a center don't know if he would be a franchise player though.

I think its a law now, Keith has to have a son in every draft.

Well Andersson won't be a number 1 most likely. Hopefully Chytil will. Just saying if there is a can't miss center, need to go for it. If not, go for the Russian.

If the year is that bad, I'm sure Nash will be gone by the deadline and possibly some other players as well.

Supposedly Brady Tkachuk splits time between the LW and C positions. Idk. I do know if you want a forward this draft, you can get one. If the Rangers remain this bad and are dead set on getting a forward, I want Svechnikov. If they end up out of the lottery position look for Veleno, Tkachuk, Kotkaniemi and maybe Akil Thomas.

Nash, Grabner, Desharinais and Holden all should be dealt if this tire fire continues.

Way early, last year was going to go Liljegren, Patrick, Vilardi at this time.

Merkley and Veleno could just as easily wind up being the top guys this year. Plus you’d need luck like the Devils, no way you finish at the bottom with Hank.

If the Rangers don't score and don't defend, doesn't matter who is in net. Plus Ondrej Pavelec and his career .907 won't aid in that regard either.
