Reading lowetide an ON comments today it looks like more and more people are coming around to what I've been saying since PC took over. He's a moron and has traded away all of our players that are able to do anything away from McDavid for pennies on the dollar.

He better make some changes before it's too late or the rest of you will have to admit you're wrong soon...

If you were in his position what would you suggest? Which players would you target and what would you give up to get them?

That's a big part of the problem. He already gave away our best assets for nothing. What do we have left? Nuge? Pul? He's (frank)ed this team. We have no RW unless Drai plays there. That means we need Nuge on line 2. Nuge needs better wingers but Luc isn't going anywhere and Kass is a 4th liner.

We need a true top 2 RDman and move Larsson down with Nurse to second pair. But we don't have assets to get what we need.

I really don't know what he can do. And it's his own damn fault.

While I'm not ready to write them off just yet, I can see where you are coming from.

I've been pondering something since Draisaitl's extension. Chiefly what would a package of he and our 2018 1st garner in return? I'm not saying we should do it, but I'm also not 100% sold on him being worth his contract. Should the Oil sell high on Drai and keep Nuge as 2C?

Fun to think about at any rate.

THe mungers would chop they're own nuts off before admitting they were overzealous fan boys that got it wrong. Its actually better if they choose that course of action in the grand scheme of humanity.

no,No, NO!!!!!

We've already traded all of our most talented players aside from McDavid for a bunch of ' truculence' and a higher caresi score. He's our next most talented player. Stop the madness.

To be clear, I'm not advocating moving Drai for the sheer sake of it. The period of underselling is done.

The only players I regard as untouchable are McDavid, Larsson, Klefbom and Nurse. I have no qualms about moving anyone else so long as the return is worth it.

Yup. I'd trade anyone not named McDavid if the deal is right. BUt that won't happen cuz Chia is a moron at trading.

Because he is mobile, mean and I'm far from certain we've seen all he has to give. Thus I'd be unwilling to part with him just yet, and will remain unwilling until game 300 or so.

Basically it’s all “potential” that we have left for real value. (Outside of nuge of course, but why trade him now him if we’re trying to get better )

the 1st (which at this stage isn’t worth all that much)
puju (who may have lost a little perceived value from what he was before)
yammy
Bear
Jones

Maybe nurse or benning, but they probably have more value to us than to Someone else

The rub is that These are the pieces/players
We need to work out as we’re now desperate/forced to surround Connor and Leon with cheap talent in the coming years

Not only that, but everyone still thinks they’ve got a shot. No ones ready to call it and deal an impact player for another 20 games probably.
Maybe Vegas ? Neal? (Probably not him as he’s killing it and regardless of building for future, they still need to win some now and build a fan base)

Tough situation for the oilers right now

Fortunately its still very early in the season, and this period of poop play could simply be an anomaly.
Actually the Oil's start this season seems eerily familiar to the way the Flames started last year.

It’s not mentioned nearly enough how the team as constructed desperately needs Slepyshev to be a true impact player

That’s concerning

For sure

.500 at the ten game mark and we’re fine.

Some flaws showing for sure. But yeah, it’s super early

I'm hoping he'll be a Russian version of Ryan Jones. Probably unreasonable to expect much more than that.

Ugh
That would be awful. Jones was a hard working bottom 6 plug.

Not saying you’re wrong, just that it’s a huge mistake on Chiarellis part if that ends up being the case

I don’t actually think chias assumption of the defence was super crazy. I think it may have been the forwards.
I don’t believe he figured benning and nurse would just step up and kill it. but just be good enough to not lose us games and we could just out score our opponents. And he’s probably right (that they won’t often be the direct cause of losing games. Not necessarily the outscoring part )

It’s the dependence he forced on the squad of puljujarvi and slepyshevs development for our success this season. Which I believe may have been a huge error

You're probably not. People think I'm negative but realistically players rarely reach their top end potential, and even more rare is a fan base's expectations or assessment of a players potential accurate.

On the bright side, with Slepyshev we managed to draft an actual NHL'er after the 1st round.

Not sure whether that makes me want to laugh or cry.

Larsson too. I mean, he's a fine defensive player, but doesn't bring much offensively. There are many players out there who bring more overall to the table than he does.

On the Oil?

After a decade of watching fast/skilled forwards try and fail to win in the NHL, I'm not willing to trade mobile, mean defenders. Larsson doesn't play a flashy game. He doesn't score a lot of points. But he does play 20+ minutes a night, is a bitch to play against, jives well with Klefbom, is a RH shot, and is signed to a sweet ass contract.

For all these reasons I consider him untouchable.
