I’m a BC guy but have been looking into the mayoral candidates for Calgary. Seems like the majority of them think this arena/development needs to happen. Any favorites to be elected next? Sounds like Bill Smith is the guy

If you want an arena Bill Smith seems like the guy. Nenshi is going to be tough to beat as the Unions are rallying hard around him. The union I used to be part of sent out notices to vote for Nenshi. Which of course would mean more big tax increases on the way if he gets in.

Yup, we need rid of Nenshi because he wants to up taxes to spend on stupid sh!t like tunnels, art, bike paths, $254 mill on a library, taxes the p!ss out of small business & property taxes have just gone up & up & the services haven't improved, designated bus lanes down 14th street SW when few people ride them that will cost $100mill so people that work downtown can have a rapid bus ride to the parking lot called Glenmore Trail. But he thinks the sports & concerts venue is fine at the Dome.
There was a a good video about this clown at a link [email protected] on Oct 7th.
Not saying I feel we should pay for this new arena but we should be partnered in it & of all the candidates, I think Bill Smith is smart enough to find a middle ground deal that will work for the Flames & for the people of Calgary. JMO

As expensive and questionable as these projects are, they pail when you look at City salaries. Want to make $100k plus with not much skill ? Go work for the City and get a gold plated pension to boot.
