We aren't there yet... the future is closer though. I still think this team can and should challenge for a payoff spot though.
and yes so far I'm not impressed with Murray's draft choices... I hope a couple of the kids in Rochester take a step forward this year.

His draft choices are less of a problem than the overpayments for guys like Kane and Lehner.

Imagine how much brighter the future of the Sabres would be if they had kept those late 1sts in 2015 and drafted two of Juulsen, Konecny, Aho, White, Beauvillier, Sprong, Cernak, etc. etc. etc.

outside of the 2014 second round which gives JDfitz a migraine every time its mentioned here (justified though) I thought his drafting was pretty good.

Literally everything else sucked. Like Id have no problem if he was kept on as an assistant or head scout

Yep. Think you'd be way further along if he had played it more conservative and built long-term instead of loading up on assets and throwing them around for a bunch of established project players.

Sucks that Rodriguez got hurt in preseason. He was getting a spot for sure, and we could def use his speed. We will get to see him, Alex, Guhle, Baptiste, Bailey and Fasching (Maybe even Pu?) all at some points this year and gotta think at least three of them should play well enough to stay up. Asplund next year.

fwiw I liked Falk a lot in camp and preseason, too. Not that he was a TM pick, but between him and Tennyson I choose Falk.

I think if anything that was his problem. I agree with what you're saying and thats what i would have hope for but he wanted to build a team like the 2012 kings(see kane, bogosian, fasching) and the era for that was gone.

I dont think his idea was bad, i think the core issue was he targeted the wrong guys. Or targeted guys who he liked personally rather than what would be a good fit.

Yep. Tennyson isn't an NHL player.

Justin "Not Faulk" Falk can be a serviceable #5-6 at least.

My guess with the Tennyson experiment is that he's on a 2 way deal this year and a 1 way next year.

I think anyway.

Yep. Everyone knew that Kane, Lehner and Bogo had warts before he acquired them. He paid full price to outbid other GMs make sure he got them rather than be patient and pay a fair price instead.

Fun, but stupid.

It didnt help that he and his head coach had no idea how to temper expectations. such classic hits include a reference to 95 points and the all time fav..."we were 1 win a month away from the playoffs"

Im so glad capperjay is in charge now

Ended up buying 4 300 level Winter Classic tickets for $220 each (there are 5 levels). Left Field Line. Hoping to flip for a gain. Helps when you buy them on an 18 month 0% APR on purchases credit card.

According to a report from Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston, the Montreal Canadiens have placed veteran defenseman Mark Streit on waivers.

Isnt it easy to look back and say that? Isnt it a little early to say all those guys will be better than what we have for the next few years?

Edit: Konecny had 28 points in 70 games last year and 4 points in 2 games this year

Juulsen 2015 (26th overall) has yet to play in NHL

Aho 2015 (35th overall) 49 points in 82 games last year, 2 points in 4 games this year

White 2015 (21st overall) 2 games 0 points

Beauvillier 2015 (28th overall) 24 points in 66 games last year, 1 point in 4 games this year

Sprong 2015 (46th overall) 2 points in 18 games

Cernak 2015 (43rd overall) has yet to play in NHL

O'Reilly = 31st overall (with other parts)
Kane = 25th overall (with other parts)
Lehner = 21st overall (with other parts)

So let's say we dont make those trades and we have these others guys listed above (the best choices per stats)

O'Reilly 2016-17 (20 + 35 = 55 points)
Kane (28 + 15 = 43 points)
Lehner was our #1 goalie last year (hard to get real comparables for this)

for

Aho (24 + 25 = 49 points)
Konecny (11 + 17 = 28 points)
Beauvillier (10 + 15 = 25 points)

So we had 98 points (for Kane and O'Reilly) and could of had 102 points (for Aho, Konecny, Beauvillier)

So really not that far ahead "today".

I agree with this 100%. He thought he could flip the script faster, probably would have if he won the lottery.

Now we need to work with what we have and improve through the draft and development.

The guys we currently have may not look this bad in 20 games when the are used to the system, make better choices, and build a little confidence.

I thought season ticket holders already got presale codes for this game. At least, I know a coworker did.

I am going to try on Ticketmaster at 10 today.

My bad, technically, it's $19.50. I never noticed the $4.50 per ticket ordering processing fee they tacked on when I purchased. Plus I paid $15 for shipping.

Didn't they have to buy extra at the first one? (I know it was 10 years ago so nobody probably remembers).
