It was a bad penalty by MacDonald there but he played a very strong game tonight as did Weise.
- MJL

Agreed -- they were fine. Penalties happen. Tough to kill a 5 on 3 but what are you gonna do? Not everyone has a Filip Forsberg to score the goals he did

Damn it

I'm sure it'll be debated heavily but was a stupid, stupid, STUPID challenge . On the road against the defending western conference cramps in their home opener. Take the damn point an go home.
- Pelle31Forever

I don't see it being much of a debate. The universal consensus is that it was not a smart challenge.

I don't usually blame the refs, but those two calls were ridiculous. One maybe, but both penalties?

Both Weise and MacDonald played very strong games tonight and penalties do happen but they're two veteran players. Time place and score. Bad penalties to take with the game on the line.

Elliot looked real deep and seemed to lose his angle on that winner....great shot, but he had 3/4 of the net to shoot at.

I agree, I think it was a bad goal on Elliot's part. The first Hartnell goal was also egregious.

Listening to Clement whine about the 2nd penalty call is nauseating...

Weise's was stupid, he grabbed the guy...when penalties are 5-1 you don't give ref the chance to ale a call....Macdonald's is a call they never use to make....now I guess if a guy steps on your stick, it's a penalty.

Absolutely. That Hartnell goal can't happen.

I'm on the fence on both -- every time I try to understand holding and interference, I get it wrong because Weise was right in the postgame. He absolutely got interfered with the same way earlier, I remember the play, and there was no call

Damn it damn it damn it

Has Hakstol had his post game media conference yet? I want to see his reasoning for that challenge.

It was a routine and controllable shot that instead of steering into the corner, he sent the rebound out right to Hartnell. You could see by his reaction that he knew he fudged that.

If they continue to skate this well and they can get a save, they will be fine....lots to like about this team.

He was fighting it all night. Never looked settled. Hartnell goal was pitiful, the Forsberg go ahead was also bad. He was almost sitting in the corner of his net. I know it's 5 on 3, but wow.

He was also too deep on that PP goal.

I mean all around, this was an ugly, ugly way to lose a game where you battled back to lead.

3 minutes to go, don't give the refs an excuse to call anything. But the AMac penalty was bullpoop.

Just joking, but to sum up. Does this mean that AMAC's play style of backing up deep into his own zone in coverage, is now a penalty?

The players in front of him have the right to their ice space as long as they don't grab Weise. Weise put his arm around the guys neck. If there wasn't a 5-1 PP discrepancy there they probably let it go. MacDonald's however was a legitimate penalty. Accidental but still a legitimate trip.

Hakstol's decision making there to challenge is inexcusable.

They played a perfect game aside from the first 10 and the last 10 minutes. I think it's more of a hiccup. Hak lost that game. Sanheim looks fine what are u watching?

I don't want to fire the coach because while I wouldn't have challenged, I am just some old guy watching on my sofa with beer and popcorn

It takes a set of brass ones to challenge it, because the guy isn't an idiot -- he trusted his review guy, it was close, it was wrong, and it cost them

Regardless, with 3 minutes left you don't call them both

Point was far from guaranteed with the AMac penalty still on the clocks, right?

It negated a possible scoring chance for NSH -- it had to be called.
