The real winner in that minor league goalie carousel is Leland Irving.
He's going to avoid a harsh Northeastern winter and play hockey in San Diego. - johndewar

Yup, at least one will likely be gone after this season anyway due to the numbers game. I'm hoping to see Hart and Sandstrom at LHV next season and, hopefully, Lyon or Stolarz can earn the backup spot for 18-19. If so, with only one year left on his deal, I think Neuvirth can be traded. I'd hang on to the more durable Elliott to be the guy to pair with a youngster. If all that happens, either Lyon or Stolarz is probably moving on to another organization next season. - BiggE
It is a tough spot, though it was a spot Hextall put himself in. He never seems to mind having a plethora of depth (not that he should). 6 goalies for 4 spots is definitely too many though! |

Semantics, but he was traded to the Preds from VGK for a 2019 3rd. One of the trades McPhee was actually able to pull off.
That was the last time McPhee was able to trade a dman - July 1st. So on October 10th he still has nine of them on the roster, not including the injured Stoner or Theodore who is in the AHL. But don't worry, he's working on it.

I honestly wonder how much of a future Stolarz has... Seriously. - jak521
its a shame, this was a big year for him. Losing most if not all of the season really sets him back esp if Lyon has a good year. |

Hextall knows a thing or two about goalie injuries from his playing days, which might explain why he's been stock piling them ever since he became GM.
The best situation would probably be for them to sign Sandstrom to an ELC this summer, but then let him play another year in Sweden. Then next year the AHL goalies can be Lyon and Hart, and if Stolarz recovers strongly enough then he can be the NHL backup and you trade Neuvirth. |

If he eventually gets value for one of these excess defensemen then he'll be proven correct, I guess. But it's really hard to understand demoting your high priced free agent signing because you're scared to waive Brad Hunt or Jon Merrill. They are #8's on an expansion team. |

Yeah that is what I see as the ideal scenario currently. Not sure of Rautio's contract situation, but maybe they just give Sandstrom full #1 goalie duties finally.
Even in that scenario though, it is just giving guys more playing time until Hextall can figure out who he is actually going to keep. At the end of the day, there are still only two spots on the Flyers and the entire point is to find a #1 (despite Hextall's preference) |

I wonder if Hart or Sandstrom push for the Flyers job next year? Things I have read from scouts and analyst seem tho think that one of these guys could be closer then we think. Lot of talk about harts maturity and mental side to his game and that he could be ready next year to push for the starting role.
It will all play out. Nothing to worry about now. These things seem to work themselves out when needed. |

Watching everything unfold with the prospects over the last 2-3 years, I don't see how anyone could expect the Flyers to roll with one of them next season. There is just no chance they dont see AHL time |

In other news I think when Read comes back up when Morin is sent down, I insert him in the lineup in place of Weise. I've liked most of the lineup but haven't been thrilled with the play of Weise or Filppula yet. Don't dislike the players, just haven't been happy with their starts. |

I'd be pretty surprised if that were to happen. Sandstrom has never played on a North American sized rink and that will be an adjustment and Hart would be making a huge step going from Junior right to the NHL. You very rarely see that with goalies. Realistically, I don't think you will see either one playing regularly for the Flyers before the 19-20 season.

I hope they can get Morin up to the show at some point before the end of the season.
Otherwise we are looking at the same "problem" next year if both he and Myers are ready for the NHL. Then what? Sorry kids, too many of you, so you will have to wait another year. |

Not sure how much that would help. I think both Weise and Read will give you very little, so I'd take the one that's 6'2 206 over the guy who is 5'10 180. Honestly, after watching Weise so far this season, I'm wondering which of the coaches coffee cups did Lehtera piss into. Surprised he hasn't at least been given a shot to replace Weise in the lineup.

I'm with you 100% on that one. If someone were to get injured, I would hope that they'd bring Morin up and put him into the lineup over Manning. Manning should be no higher than 8th on the depth chart, IMO.
