unless they are gonna sign Desjardins, that'll go over well
- jimbro83

Uggg. Hope not. That would be another temporary fix. I like Desharnais where he is. And I’d rather keep Miller on wing.

whatever is going on is weird with this Russian fella

It's hilarious that McPhee is jerking around the guy he signed to be his #1 center because he overloaded himself with crappy defensemen that he can't move.

like Jan said, I think when Fast returns, as long as everyone stays healthy, it'll be the 11 guys we saw last night plus Fast as the 12 forwards

I'm actually leaving work early. Had a wedding last night so I'm shot, office is dead and probably closing early anyway. Gonna blow out of here at 12:30 and head home to watch.

So by 1:23 I will probably be cursing and wishing I just stayed in the office.

from Brooks column:

Last season ended with Staal’s tenure on Broadway in jeopardy. There was the possibility of a buyout following a second half in which he struggled to keep up after returning from a midseason concussion. When the Rangers instead bought out Dan Girardi, chatter persisted into and throughout camp that Staal’s spot in the top six, if not on the roster, was in jeopardy.

“I got kind of sick of that kind of talk,” Staal told The Post. “I’m not denying that there was a reason for it with the way the season ended for me, but I came into camp determined to let my play do my talking for me.

“Just because I’m 30 doesn’t mean I can’t play,” Staal said. “I’m looking to put all that talk behind me.”

Honestly, people need to cut him some slack. Hasn’t been too bad and either way we’re stuck with him. On your other point about FAst returning... that would mean keeping Miller at center? I guess like you said, barring injuries. Still think we should try to add another C.

That’s the point!!! Easy to take jabs at them but never give any credit if they play well. Need to call out Smith when he has bad game too.
- junaka3

I did say Staal played well. Plus, I felt Smith shouldn't have been the only one to sit, but get why he and ADA didn't sit based on the alignment.

Brooks column today noted the same on Holden/Kampfer, so I am not the only one. I wanted Kampfer to stay around as an extra d-man and was fine with just not giving Holden away, despite his second half struggles. But just because Montreal didn't score, doesn't mean they each played well. Toronto is a much better offensive club clearly than Montreal, which partially explains Smith's struggles. But he didn't play well.

Honestly I think all the injuries added up and it had to be frustrating for him. He was mostly healthy last year, but was really awful. I'm glad he is using all the chatter to play better. Really need him to be good, because he won't get traded and I would hate to have his and G's dead cap on the books.

I’d like to see Lettieri get a shot. Played wing in preseason but was center in college. Wonder where they have him with pack?

Gotcha. I’m not attributing win to play of Holden and Kampfer and totally agree Leafs have a lot more offense, but just like to see people be fair in their criticism. It’s become a really bad habit to bash Holden and Staal, and I’m not sold on Smith being head and shoulders abov them. He did have an awful game but I do recall a play last night where Staal got turned inside out and did a sit n spin! Lol. I’d rather see Graves and Pionk up, but it is what it is for now. For perspective, go back a year and look at who started season and who finished.

Why I didn't panic after the first two games and refuse to panic yet. Your points are well taken.
