Only with regard to the initials used her to represent him. The record clearly reflects that. Ad nauseum lol

VDV - It's outrageous, egregious, preposterous.

I think what happened was Hakstol knew, correctly, that Thornton was gonna be out there down low and he didn't want AMac to be in a position to get overpowered

Gudas just is stronger, physically. Thornton was a problem all freaking night. I understood it. Gudas just can't take the freaking penalty he did

- AllInForFlyers

Morin in the lineup could have solved that problem.....just sayin....

I think we may see one of the kids in for Manning tonight, but that's all.
- jmatchett383

You are probably right.

Manning wasn't horrible last night, but the bar is kind of low if not being horrible is the standard for playing. I think Morin or Sanheim can be much better than "not horrible."

Really exciting, fun game to watch, a ton of back and forth chances.

The added speed on the 4th line is great. Laughton especially has a lot of confidence and looks like a different player then his last stint with the team. Leier was very good too.

Provorov is just quietly great. Probably too soon to say he is going to be their franchise D man but I think he is.

Amac was fine and if he plays that way all year it would be ok.

It's only a matter of time before Morin and Sanheim get in there. They need the skill sets both of them can bring. Really excited to see Sanheim, especially late in a game when they trail by a goal, he along with Ghost give them much needed offense from the blue line.

Konecny is a joy to watch. Him and Weal will be fun pair in the 2nd PP which is an upgrade from last year.

Lehtera in for Weise at some point, maybe not after a win, but sometime.

G has his wheels back and if that was the only positive thing from last night it would be huge, but there are a lot of positives from last night.

So glad hockey is back.

Said this last night, Boucher is a great announcer, loved listening to him call the game.

Elliot flopped around a lot last night. Roman Cuckmanek was brought up last night. Great comparison.
- SuperSchennBros

If Elliott puts up numbers like Cechmanek did when he was here, none of us will be complaining.

We'll see what happens tonight. Coaches tend to not change the lineup after a win.

Could've also been 4-3 in favor of the Sharks at that time with a different lineup...also just sayin...

Here's kind of how i feel with the defense. I don't hate any of the defenders. Each has strengths and weaknesses.

The problem i have is with morin and sanheim in the press box i hate the mix.

By default it seems MacDonald will play with Provorov until someone like hagg or Sanehim take that spot. But right now i hate Manning and Gudas together. It's just not enough skill. Add Sanheim with Gudas and now you have a defender that can help defend and get out of the zone because of his skating and skill with the puck.

Add Morin and now you could put Hagg with Gudas, while Hagg isn't Sanheim with the puck he is still a reliable two way defender. Morin then goes with Gostisbehere.

Last night i just hated the mix.

Provorov is so solid. The fact that he is only in his second season and is both great defensively and contributing offensively is incredible. In every key situation last night he was on the ice.

MacDonald wasn't bad and I don't think he's coming out of the lineup. I think Hakstol views him as the needed veteran on defense.

The Flyers could definitely upgrade over the performances of the Manning-Gudas pairing. I'm curious if the powers-that-be would consider inserting a Morin-Sanheim pairing in tonight instead of Manning-Gudas. It's probably wishful thinking, but I don't like the penalties with Gudas. There was no reason to take that second penalty last night, whether or not you think it is a penalty. He didn't need to do that.

- ManCity

Gudas had one of his caveman games. He was horrible but he's had those games before

Macdonald is hardly ever obviously BAD. Its just all the things in his game he doesn't have that you wish he did. There was at least 2 times the puck was wrapped up the boards on his side when they were in the O zone that I know even Morin would have stepped up to pinch on. Macdonald backs off and here we go with the play the other way. Coaches aren't going to kill a player on that. His offensive instincts with the puck on his stick when they are in the O zone are atrocious, you'd hope for a guy of his slight stature he'd bring more to the table there.

So it's death by a thousand paper cuts with him.

Manning was a whole nother story last night and was atrocious.

wouldn't surprise me either way. would like to see Morin's size vs LA. all in all a good win. I was so happy to see the team speed. even more happy to see the jump in Giroux's game. that is vital if they are to have a successful season
- nastyflyergirl

It was truly noticeable -- Leier and Laughton really got on top of guys and got to loose pucks and closed on shooters rapidly

It's hard to say if it's pure skating ability or confidence, and hthey were not perfect -- Leier had an egregious giveaway that was likely due to youth -- but it was definitely different having Flyers in the bottom six consistently getting to places when they needed to be there

Wow

"The Anaheim Ducks announced yesterday that they have signed defenseman, Josh Manson, to a four-year contract extension. The new deal, which kicks in next year, will have an AAV of $4.1 million."

That seems like a lot, to me. He looked good in the playoffs, but wow.

- jmatchett383

He's a really solid top 4 RHD who won't score a lot, but if he happy to have him here.

Tough on the Ducks to start out the season without Lindholm and Vatanen and of course they lost Theodore to Vegas.

I think it's a pretty safe bet that AMac is going to be in the lineup the whole season unless he gets hurt. This likely means that except when he comes up due to injuries, Sanheim is likely playing in the AHL for most of the year. I do expect Morin to replace Manning in the lineup at some point, and I'm hoping by seasons end, to see the following pairings:

Provorov-Hagg or Gudas
AMac-Hagg or Gudas
Morin-Ghost
spare-Manning

I liked him in my limited viewing, but he seemed (again, from limited viewing) like what we wanted Bourdon to be. A solid, tough, yet unspectacular player.

Good for Anaheim, locking him up, it just seemed a but high to me.

What is the point though? They just wanted to give Manning a game to start the season? If he thought Manning was a better option than Morin/Sanheim last night, why would it be different tonight?
- YuenglingJagr

Surely Hextall didn't bring both Morin and Sanheim on a four game road trip with the plan that neither of them play an NHL game while they miss two AHL games.

I would put Sanheim with Gudas tonight. They played together a couple of times in preseason.
